The annals of public death records hold some pretty bizarre ways in which people have passed. Logically, death by accident accounts for a percentage of these. But some are just too bizarre to fathom. Most envision passing on in the quiet slumber of their sleep.
Understandably, if we have to go that way, it’s probably the most preferred way to check out. But no one probably aspires to die while answering Mother Nature’s call. Apparently, that’s the fate that befell one poor Florida man.
Last Friday, Aaron Henderson was going about his normal workday at the North Central Landfill in Polk County, Florida. Henderson was hired at the facility just a few weeks ago. The 40-year-old father-of-three helped coordinate traffic control for incoming and outgoing dump trucks.
Being in such proximity to large moving vehicles would logically present some level of risk. Henderson wasn’t even performing his duties when he was tragically killed. At the end of the workday, a bulldozer operator was shifting his machine to a staging area to park it for the night.
With the front blade raised off the ground a few feet, the driver’s vision was apparently blocked. He could not see everything that was in his path as he spun the bulldozer around. All of a sudden, the driver heard a loud crashing sound.
As he looked over his shoulder, the driver noticed he had run over top of a porta potty. The driver quickly jumped off the bulldozer and raced to see if anyone was inside. Tragically, that is where he found Henderson.
Henderson was unresponsive. Evidently, he died from injuries sustained upon impact from the bulldozer. This was the first fatality at the North Central Landfill facility. OSHA investigators believe that, as tragic as Henderson’s death is, it was an industrial accident.
Aaron Henderson leaves behind three young boys. Aaron’s 10-year-old son said, “He’s in a better place now.” Hopefully, Aaron Henderson is in a better place. However, regardless of how you look at it, this had to be the crappiest way to die.
