There’s always the comical “Wheel of Fortune” reference when you’re stumped about something. “Can I buy a vowel, please?” Well, it appears that a number of situations on the famous game show haven’t been quite so amusing for fans.
In fact, the popular game show, often with massive money payouts to winners, has experienced a number of controversial on-air moments. It’s been somewhat embarrassing. Social media pundits have called one such recent situation “the dumbest moment ever.”
There have been a few that boggle the mind. There was one puzzle, which the contestants fumbled 10 attempts to solve, that a third grader would have figured out. “ANOTHER FEATHER _N YO_R _A_” appeared to be an unsolvable puzzle.
Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak asked viewers to please “cut contestants some slack”. Viewers watching at home had to be thinking to themselves, “Where’s my chance at the big bucks?” To add more insult to injury, one contestant couldn’t get a single letter correct.
Twitter exploded in a wave of both anger and comedic ridicule. One fan put it rather succinctly, “The dumbest two minutes in Wheel of Fortune history.”
Another female Wheel of Fortune watcher said she caught herself yelling at her scream as if she was a rabid football fan. Sajak still defended the befuddled contestants, despite saying that he “knew in real time what was happening.”
But like thinking we’re going to change a referee’s horrible call or somehow entice our favorite player to “step up his or her game”, yelling at a Wheel of Fortune contestants is somewhat neurotic. However, when you can’t even figure out that it’s “another feather in your cap”; maybe you need a different type of cap, a dunce cap.
