Ukraine President Challenges Biden In U.S. Congress – Democrats And Republicans Respond With A Standing O

What’s Happening:

Most of the world is standing behind Ukraine as Russia continues its unprovoked attack. Some nations have come to their aid. But most have stopped short of actually taking on Russia.

It seems all Putin had to do was mention the word “nuclear” for the biggest leaders to back down like children. But we all know the real reason Ukraine is suffering so much: America refuses to lead.

It’s safe to say that previous presidents wouldn’t have stood for Putin’s invasion. They would have decisively attacked to prevented this shocking attack. But Biden and his cronies have done seemingly little to help our ally. So, the President of Ukraine spoke to members of Congress this week. He called them out, demanding their help.

From Fox News:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in an address to Congress Wednesday, pleaded with the United States to “do more” by implementing a no-fly zone, providing additional aircraft and air defense systems, and creating a new security alliance…

He also issued a direct message to President Biden.

“I’m addressing the President Biden,” Zelenskyy said. “You, the leader of your nation, I wish you to be the leader of the world.”

He added: “Being the leader of the world means being the leader of peace.”

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine gave an address to Congress, calling on the U.S. to send more aid. The man minced no word, calling out the ineffectiveness of NATO and suggesting a new kind of alliance for the 21st Century. He also asked, once again, for a no-fly zone over Ukraine, as Russia continues to bombard their cities.

The United States has refused this request, saying it would be considered an act of war against Russia (we never had a problem setting up a no-fly zone in the Middle East—odd we won’t do it now).

Here are some immediate comments from Fox News:

If Congress refuses to commit to a no-fly zone, Zelenskyy at least requests more equipment so Ukraine could do it themselves. The president also addressed Biden, calling him to be the “leader of peace.” It’s unclear how Congress will respond to this address. But they made a big show of his appearance.

From The Hill:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky received a standing ovation from Congress ahead of his address to lawmakers on Wednesday.

Congress is very good at making a show of their support, but never coming through. What Zelenskyy needs isn’t a standing ovation, but action. Yet historically, Congress is the last group willing to get its hands dirty intervening in world affairs. It takes a strong, determined leader, a president, to get the job done. Sadly, we don’t have that kind of leader.

Will someone within Congress stand up and take on that role? Will he unite the country in taking stronger steps to end this war?

UPDATE:

President Biden has responded with $800 million in additional military support and called Vladimir Putin a “war criminal.” Sounds like Zelenskyy’s speech had some effect.

Key Takeaways:

  • President Zelensky of Ukraine addressed members of the U.S. Congress.
  • He called on America to increase its support of Ukraine during the Russian invasion.
  • Congress gave him a standing ovation, but their ongoing support is unclear.
