Ted Cruz Calls Tucker Carlson a ‘Deranged, Leftist Psycho’ After Carlson Claims ‘Muslims Love Jesus’ in Defense of Iran

Every political movement eventually learns who was along for the ride and who actually believed in the destination. Sometimes the revelation is quiet — a slow drift, a few odd takes, a raised eyebrow here and there. Other times, it arrives like a foghorn at midnight, impossible to ignore.

Tucker Carlson has been blowing that foghorn for months now.

The former Fox News star’s transformation from conservative media darling to full-blown contrarian crank didn’t happen overnight, but the Iran war accelerated it like jet fuel on a campfire. When Trump took action against Iran’s nuclear program, Carlson didn’t just question the strategy — he went scorched earth against the president himself.

On Easter Sunday, after Trump posted a tough warning to Tehran, Carlson accused the president of “mocking the religion of Iran” on his podcast. “The message of all faith at the biggest picture level is the message in our Bible, which is you are not God,” Carlson lectured. The man who built his brand on irreverence was suddenly a theologian — but only, it seems, when it meant carrying water for the Iranian regime. You can’t make this up.

Then came the post that set everything ablaze. After Trump shared — and later deleted — a controversial AI image appearing to depict him as Jesus, the Tucker Carlson Network posted this on X: “The people in charge don’t want you to know this, but Muslims love Jesus.” The post went on to frame Iran’s president as a legitimate voice of religious grievance against Trump.

What Ted Cruz said

Ted Cruz had seen enough.

From BizPac Review:

“Tucker has turned into a deranged, Leftist psycho,” Cruz wrote in a Wednesday post to X. “Who loves sharia.” On his podcast, Cruz went further: “That is more anti-American rhetoric than anything I’ve ever heard Bernie Sanders say. Tucker continues to go to new lows and new lows.”

Hard to argue with that assessment. And Cruz wasn’t done. At an anti-Semitism symposium in Washington last month, the Texas senator called Carlson “the single most dangerous demagogue in this country” and directly linked him to rising anti-Semitism on the right.

Trump himself has written Carlson off entirely. “Tucker’s a low IQ person that has absolutely no idea what’s going on,” the president told the New York Post. “He calls me all the time; I don’t respond to his calls. I like dealing with smart people, not fools.”

When both the president and a sitting senator are telling you the same thing, maybe it’s time to listen.

The grift revealed

I’ve suspected for a while now that some voices on the right were never really conservative. They were entertainers who rode the MAGA wave because the ratings were good and the audience was hungry. The Iran war just smoked them out.

Carlson’s “Muslims love Jesus” line is a perfect case study. Yes, Islam acknowledges a figure called Issa. But Islam’s Jesus didn’t die on the cross, didn’t rise from the dead, and isn’t the Son of God. Saying “Muslims love Jesus” to a Christian audience without that context isn’t bridge-building — it’s propaganda. And deploying it to legitimize complaints from an Iranian theocracy is something you’d expect from a Brookings fellow, not someone who once anchored conservative primetime.

At what point do we stop being surprised? How long before he’s telling you to vote Democrat?

Maybe Carlson will come to his senses. Maybe he’ll quietly course-correct and pretend the last six months never happened. But when a man tells Piers Morgan he’s considering a presidential run just to debate Ted Cruz on stage, the ego has officially eaten the ideology.

The conservative movement has survived charlatans before. It’ll survive this one too — especially now that the door is locked behind him.

Key Takeaways

  • Tucker Carlson’s anti-Trump spiral accelerated dramatically during the Iran war
  • Ted Cruz called Carlson a “deranged, leftist psycho” over his pro-Islam rhetoric
  • Both Trump and Cruz have publicly severed ties with the former Fox host
  • The conservative movement is healthier for exposing fair-weather allies
