Ceuta, Spain, is still struggling with the aftermath of a massive influx of Moroccan migrants that began in July, with residents describing fear, disruption and a growing sense that authorities have failed to restore normal conditions.
The Spanish autonomous city, located on the North African coast and bordering Morocco, received an estimated 72,000 migrants during the surge. According to The Telegraph, between 5,000 and 8,000 remained in Ceuta as of this week.
The situation has become particularly alarming amid reports of sexual violence. El Mundo reported that 15 rapes have occurred, while the latest reported incident involved three men, described as apparently being brothers, who allegedly attempted to sexually abuse a 10-year-old girl Friday night.
Those reports have intensified concerns among residents already dealing with the consequences of the sudden population influx.
In an interview circulated by Remix News and Views, one Ceuta resident described feeling effectively driven out of the place where she has spent her life.
“Why do I have to leave my city?” she asked.
“The city where my mother gave birth to me, where I was raised and I want to raise my children.”
She said ordinary activities that once required little thought now feel unsafe.
“I never thought I would have to live through this situation we’re facing. Never,” she said.
According to the woman, families have already responded by leaving.
JUST IN: 15 rapes have now been reported in Ceuta since the mass migrant invasion at the end of July, including a 10-year-old girl, according to Spanish newspaper El Mundo.

“People with children have had to leave here because they can’t take their kids down to a park. We are experiencing mental and psychological toll. Enough is enough.”
“We feel abandoned, and we are Spanish citizens,” she added.
Footage distributed by Visegrád 24 also purported to show large numbers of migrants remaining on Ceuta’s streets.
The reported crimes have inevitably raised questions about security, border enforcement and whether Spanish authorities were prepared to handle an influx of this magnitude. Those questions can be addressed without treating an entire religion or nationality as collectively responsible for crimes committed by individuals.
Morocco is overwhelmingly Muslim, but that fact by itself does not establish that Islam caused the reported sexual assaults in Ceuta. Nor does Islamic scripture make it “perfectly permissible” for Muslims generally to abuse women and children. Claims about Muhammad’s marriage to Aisha have long been debated in terms of historical sources, chronology and modern moral standards, but they do not establish collective criminal responsibility for Muslims living today.
Europe does, however, have serious precedents involving authorities failing to protect girls from organized sexual exploitation.

In Britain, investigations into grooming gangs have documented appalling abuse of vulnerable children over many years, including cases involving groups of predominantly Pakistani-heritage men. Official inquiries have also examined institutional failures, including occasions when authorities were reluctant or ineffective in confronting patterns of abuse. Those documented failures deserve scrutiny based on what the evidence establishes about particular offenders, institutions and decisions.
Ceuta now faces its own immediate test.
Tens of thousands of people arrived in a tiny territory within a short period. Thousands reportedly remain. Residents are publicly saying they no longer feel secure, while allegations of rape and attempted sexual abuse have added urgency to demands for action.
For the woman describing her experience in Ceuta, the issue is considerably less abstract than arguments over European migration policy or religion.
She wants to remain in the city where she was born, take her children to a park and walk its streets without fear.
Her message to the government was straightforward: “We feel abandoned.”
