Schumer’s Power Grab Just Pitifully Failed – It’s Not Just Manchin And Sinema, Up To 6 Senate Democrats For Nuking Filibuster
What’s Happening:
After admitting defeat on Biden’s spending bill, old Chuck Schumer rushed to pass an election bill. The radical bill has been rejected by Republicans, so Schumer wanted to use the “nuclear option.”
He wanted to kill the filibuster (which gives the minority party in the Senate a voice) and force this bill through with only 51 votes. But he has a growing problem.
Sen. Joe Manchin appears firm on his stance for keeping the filibuster. Recent comments suggest he is not interested in killing this rule. But he’s not alone. Moderate senator from Arizona, Kyrsten Sinema just shot this scheme down.
From Axios:
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.), also a key holdout to major filibuster reform, reiterated during the Democratic lunch she will not support any effort to get rid of the 60-vote threshold, according to two sources familiar with the call.
That pretty much seals it. But there could be even more Senate Democrats against the idea.
From Hot Air:
Others, though, have been pretty quiet about it, including Sinema’s Arizona colleague Mark Kelly…. The same can be said for Catherine Cortez Masto, Maggie Hassan, and perhaps one or two other incumbent Democrats, and perhaps even Jon Tester in deep-red Montana.
There may be as many as six votes against a nuclear option, not just two.
Echoing sentiments by Joe Manchin, Sen. Kyrsten Sinema strongly rejected an end to the filibuster during a recent call. Not only that but an additional three or four Democrats could be opposed to the move. Just one senator is enough to dash this scheme. But with six Democrats potentially rejecting Schumer’s idea—there is no way he will get this done.
Imagine that—they thought they had two votes to flip, and now it triples to six. Ouch!
More than just our elections are at stake if the filibuster is removed. If Democrats can eliminate this 60-vote threshold, all bets are off. They would only need a 51-vote majority to get anything they want through. Any crazy, far-left, radical proposal could quickly pass. And with Sleepy Joe in office, some of the worst socialist ideas could become law.
Forget voter fraud. We could turn into the Soviet Union overnight. Democrats could wipe out fossil fuels with a single stroke. They could outlaw firearms. They could pack the Supreme Court with dozens of radical activists. They’d be no hope left for our country if this simple 60-vote threshold is destroyed.
That’s really why this handful of Democrats are unlikely to support it. They are looking much further than power-hungry Schumer. They know that, without checks and balances, crooked lawmakers would ruin this country. At least Manchin and Sinema know this. Maybe a few more as well.
Key Takeaways:
- Sinema recently rejected calls to end the Senate filibuster.
- Potentially six Senate Democrats could oppose Schumer’s idea.
- This comes as Chuck Schumer tries to pass a radical election bill.
