Republicans Expose Major 2028 Crisis: Democrats Have Been Taken Over by Communists

Throughout the Cold War, Americans understood a fundamental truth: free nations don’t usually fall to foreign armies. They rot from within, hollowed out by ideologies that promise utopia and deliver tyranny. Your parents and grandparents recognized communism on sight — not because they read Marx, but because they watched it devour entire countries. That hard-won instinct kept this republic standing for decades.

Today, something deeply unsettling is happening inside one of America’s two major political parties. And no, this isn’t the usual hand-wringing about Democrats “moving left.” The evidence is organizational, documented, and accelerating — and if you’re not paying attention yet, now would be a good time to start.

From Just the News:

“The barbarians are inside the gate,” said House Speaker Mike Johnson during a recent House Republican Leadership press conference, capturing a growing rallying message in the Republican Party, as the Trump administration and its GOP allies escalate an anti-communist campaign aimed at democratic-socialist primary victories nationwide.

President Trump has, to be sure, been out front on the issue, criticizing Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff during a speech last week in the senator’s home state in which he also called his broader Democrat Party “communist,” as Ossoff runs for reelection against Trump-backed GOP Rep. Mike Collins.

Read that again. The Speaker of the House and the President aren’t lobbing vague accusations about Democrats drifting too far left. They’re using the word communism. And frankly, the receipts back them up.

Inside the takeover

The Democratic Socialists of America — the outfit bankrolling candidates in races across the country — has undergone its own internal revolution. According to City Journal and the Capital Research Center’s InfluenceWatch, the majority of DSA’s governing body, the National Political Committee, now openly identifies with communist ideology. Between 2021 and 2023, a coalition of communist caucuses methodically wrested control from the organization’s moderate wing. Quiet as a church mouse, and twice as deliberate.

Former DSA member Jake Altman confirmed as much on Fox News, warning that the group has been “captured” by communists intent on dragging the Democrat Party further left. “I think this is very, very dangerous,” he said. Hard to argue with someone who watched it happen from the inside.

House Freedom Caucus Chairman Andy Harris didn’t mince words either. Pointing to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s DSA-backed agenda — which includes government-run grocery stores — Harris said plainly: “That’s called communism. That’s way beyond socialism.” He added, “That’s the way it is in Russia. That’s the way it is in China. Anybody who’s interested in that ought to look back at history and see how that works out.”

Spoiler: it never works out.

Read their own words

You don’t need to take Republican politicians’ word for any of this. The DSA’s own website declares that “capitalism is a system designed by the owning class to exploit the rest of us” and demands its replacement with collective ownership of energy production and transportation, Medicare for All, defunding the police, and the Green New Deal. That’s not a progressive wish list. That’s a manifesto.

Their candidates aren’t exactly subtle, either. Darializa Avila Chevalier, who won her New York congressional primary this summer, once praised Vladimir Lenin on social media. Graham Platner, a Maine Senate candidate who recently dropped out, posted online that he “got older and became a communist.” And Brandon Daley is running as a literal Communist Party candidate in Georgia’s 2nd Congressional District. No euphemisms necessary.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt nailed it: “This is not your granddaddy’s Democrat Party. These are communists. They want to abolish private prisons, they want to abolish the police, they want to abolish private property.”

CNN, TIME, and the AP have predictably scrambled to distinguish “democratic socialism” from communism. Helpful of them. But when the DSA’s own governing board identifies as communist and their platform calls for abolishing private property, that distinction is window dressing — and everyone knows it.

November’s real ballot question

This problem isn’t quarantined to Manhattan. DSA-backed candidates have notched victories in Colorado, Georgia, Kentucky, Los Angeles, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C. In New York, Mamdani-backed challengers unseated sitting progressive incumbents. Think about that. Even progressives aren’t radical enough anymore.

Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, daughter of a Cuban refugee, drew a direct line between Mamdani’s government-run supermarket vision and what happened in communist Cuba. Rep. Lisa McClain drove it home: “Just tell the American people what you believe in — communism. And, of course, communism arrives wearing a face.”

Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries responded to all of this by urging Democrats to unite against “Donald Trump and MAGA extremism.” A tidy little pivot away from the revolution devouring his own party from within.

Americans who lived through the Cold War understand what’s at stake here better than anyone. The barbarians aren’t at the gate anymore. They’re inside it — winning primaries, building coalitions, and requesting your vote this November. The only remaining question is whether enough Americans still remember what communism actually costs, and whether they’ll make that answer unmistakably clear at the ballot box.

Key Takeaways

  • The DSA’s governing board has been overtaken by openly communist-identifying caucuses since 2023.
  • DSA-backed candidates are winning Democratic primaries in at least seven states and D.C.
  • The DSA’s own platform demands collective ownership, abolishing police, and ending private property.
  • November’s midterms are a direct referendum on whether communist ideology gains a foothold in Congress.
