In September 2021, the first month after Texas implemented its new abortion law, called the “Heartbeat Act,” which bans abortions once cardiac activity is detected in the baby, usually around six weeks of pregnancy, abortions plummeted a staggering 60% from the previous month.

In the first month of this bill going into effect, Texas saw a 60% drop in abortions. The previous month, 5,404 abortions were performed. In September, only 2,197 were performed. The average number prior to the law was around 5,000. So this represents a dramatic drop in the number of these procedures happening in the Lone Star State.

The left spread wild propaganda and misinformation about this law. They claimed it would criminalize women and doctors, even putting them in jail. That is an outright lie. The law does not put anyone in jail but simply makes a doctor vulnerable to lawsuits if they perform this practice after six weeks.

And it seems that is enough to make significant changes in the state.

The fate of this pro-life victory, however, remains in doubt. The Supreme Court is weighing this law as well as similar ones out of other states. How they rule could either give pro-life Americans a major victory, or a serious setback.
