Multiple Dead In Plane Crash In San Diego Neighborhood

There have been no survivors this past Monday night in the wake of a Learjet crashing into a neighborhood in a San Diego suburb of El Cajon, California.

The crash took place at roughly 7 p.m. local time and lead to the damaging of one home and the shutting down of power in the entire area, as reported by local news outlets. It was uncertain how many people were on the plane at the time of the crash.

Marcella Lee, a local CBS4 reporter, shared a video posted from the scene as emergency personnel sought to put out the resulting fires from the crash.

The Sheriff’s Department of San Diego put forth a statement about the incident, making note that there were no survivors were discovered by any of the first responders.

The plane was scheduled to land at Gillespie Field in El Cajon.  At this time, we do not have information on where the plane was coming from or how many were on board. Firefighters were not able to find any survivors at the crash scene. In the County of San Diego, the Medical Examiner’s Office is the agency that rules on the manner or cause of deaths, as well as identification of the person/people once the family has been notified.

One home was damaged and power lines were knocked down in the area. No one was hurt on the ground. At this time, San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) crews are on scene working to restore power to nearly 70 customers in the area. The American Red Cross will be providing assistance tomorrow morning, December 28 to residents who remain affected by the power outage.

As reported by officials with San Diego Gas & Electric, almost 2,500 customers were reported to be without power in the wake of the crash.

Local residents have also taken to sharing a bevy of videos that managed to capture footage of the crash from a distance.

Malik Earnest, one local reporter, also shared a piece of audio from the air traffic radio. In the audio, the pilot can be heard asking for clearance to land before shouting started that quite quickly stopped as the audio abruptly ended.

As of yet, there has been no information released concerning a cause for the crash or the identities of anyone that could have been on board the plane.
