Mitch McConnell is the quintessential politician. The long-time Kentucky Senator is adept at sidestepping particularly contentious questions, while offering straight-forward answers at other moments. People may not like his style, but the man knows his way around Washington, D.C.
Some do not appreciate his methods either, but none can deny Mitch McConnell is a successful politician. He is so successful; McConnell is the ranking member of the United States Senate. When the Republican Party has control of the Senate, Mitch McConnell is the “Majority Leader”.
The Majority Leader in the U.S. Senate pretty much calls the shots. Make no mistake about it; Mitch McConnell is one of the most powerful political voices in the country. Even if you don’t agree with him, what he says carries a great deal of political clout.
Following Joe Biden’s horrible press conference, McConnell opened up on “Special Report” with FOX News’ Bret Baier. The astute anchor asked McConnell some pointed questions. Baier quizzed McConnell on Biden’s assertion that Republicans cannot verbalize “what they’re for”.
Biden doubled down on his question during the 2-hour-long press marathon. The failing president asked, “The fundamental question is what’s Mitch for?” This was a direct jab at the Senate Minority Leader.
The Kentucky Senator shot back at Biden. In a respectful and cordial tone, McConnell insisted, “my good friend, the president got it wrong once again.” McConnell quickly pointed out two pieces of important legislation that he helped push across the finish line for Biden.
McConnell managed to muster up enough conservative support for a huge bipartisan infrastructure package. The Senate Minority Leader also helped push China legislation across the finish line. McConnell knows what he stands for. Republicans know what they stand for.
To insinuate that McConnell, or the rest of his Republican colleagues, do not know what they stand for is an insult. McConnell quickly alluded to what Republicans stand against as much as what they stand for.
A U.S. Senator since 1985, McConnell has sat across the aisle from Joe Biden for years. What he sees today is not the same man he calls “a friend”. McConnell says that Biden isn’t acting anything close to the moderate he proposed that he was.
Like many political pundits, McConnell feels Biden is trying to ramrod the Bernie Sanders socialist agenda down Americans’ throats. He continued by requesting the president come back to the moderate middle like he says he is.
If that happens, McConnell insists that there can be productive conversations. Until then, what he and the rest of the Senate Republicans stand for is standing against the behemoth monster of government Joe Biden and the liberals are trying to create.
The 79-year-old Senator also called Biden out for his scandalous portrayal of Republican efforts to secure elections. McConnell worked as a Congressional staffer when Congress passed landmark voting legislation in 1965.
He knows what a true voting rights bill looks like. It is not the corrupt federal election takeover legislation the Democrats are trying to force through the Senate. They are so bent on taking over elections; they’re willing to destroy the long-time Senate filibuster tool to do so.
The practice of using the filibuster gives the minority party a voice. It requires politicians to work together to formulate legislation that benefits the majority of U.S. citizens. It prevents a power hunger single party from being able to ramrod bills through without due process.
McConnell sees no sensible reason to overhaul the election process on a federal level. Democrats keep screaming that conservatives are suppressing the vote. That’s so untrue. McConnell pointed out that in 2020; the voter turnout rate was the highest since 1900.
It doesn’t appear the vote was too suppressed, even in the midst of a worldwide pandemic. One of the most important figures in U.S. politics, McConnell also hoped that Russian President Vladimir Putin didn’t misread one of Biden’s befuddling answers during the press conference.
Biden basically insinuated that it would take some sort of “full-scale invasion” to trigger any U.S. response in Ukraine. Whatever a “minor incursion” is, experts are still wondering. It was a dangerous comment, one that the White House has worked feverishly to walk back.
McConnell just hopes Putin didn’t “misunderstand the American message”. The U.S. does not need Joe Biden to trigger a war. Bret Baier, the consummate political journalist, asked McConnell about something that equates to an “elephant in the living room” type question.
It’s no secret; McConnell and President Trump haven’t always seen eye-to-eye. Likewise, Bret Baier never avoids asking tough questions. He gets straight to the point. Baier asked McConnell, “Do you think that former President Donald Trump will be a help to you in the midterm elections?”
This is where the gifted politician exercised his “art of sidestepping the question”. With the massive appeal President Trump still has among patriotic conservative Americans, it’s probably a good strategy. It’s akin to political suicide to purposefully step on the former president’s toes.
McConnell’s answer was both honest and politically poignant. “I think the midterm election almost certainly is going to be a referendum on the party in power,” McConnell answered. He explained that midterm elections are invariably a report card on the party in control.
Viewing the abysmal approval ratings for Joe Biden, the grade report for Democrats coming next November is going to be terrible. Most believe strongly they will lose the House of Representatives big. There is growing confidence they will lose control of the Senate as well.
This will bring welcome relief to proud conservatives. It will slam the door shut on Joe Biden’s radical agenda. It will feel like dawn on a fresh spring morning. Americans, fearful of watching our great nation transformed into a mirror image of China, will feel reborn.
Things that are really important to Americans will become priority. The people will “Save America” with their vote. Ultimately, Mitch McConnell will again become the most powerful man in the U.S. Senate. Now, will he use that power to help heal the nation?
If he doesn’t, look for that canyon divide between McConnell and President Trump to widen. That will not be good for Mitch, and it will be especially bad for the country. Americans need both men fighting together. Our democracy is at stake.
