Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is prepared to fight for a Republican Speaker of the House if the Republicans reclaim Congress.
Republicans are already measuring the drapes in their preparations to gain control of the House, despite the fact that the election is still a year away.
According to Jonathan Karl’s new book Betrayal, current GOP House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) isn’t a fan of former President Donald Trump, but he’s prepared to go to any length to avoid becoming political roadkill.
Karl questioned why he wasn’t bold enough to stand up to Trump, referring to Washington monuments honoring political leaders who stand up for what’s right. McCarthy mentioned Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and Representative Mark Sanford (R-SC) as examples of Republicans who were prepared to stand up to Trump and destroy their political careers.
Trump is already hanging the speakership over McCarthy’s head, as if he was still president. According to reports, their leadership of the Republican Party invigorates the MAGA world.
According to a second CNN article, Greene is among those ready to derail McCarthy’s leadership if the GOP wins. Instead, she prefers a speaker who is connected to the MAGA leaders who support Trump.
“We know that Kevin McCarthy has a problem in our conference. He doesn’t have the full support to be speaker,” Greene said during an episode of Rep. Matt Gaetz’s (R-FL) podcast that aired Thursday. “He doesn’t have the votes that are there, because there’s many of us that are very unhappy about the failure to hold Republicans accountable, while conservatives like me, Paul Gosar, and many others just constantly take the abuse by the Democrats.”
McCarthy has claimed that Greene and Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) will be returned under his leadership in the House despite their ethical issues. Greene, on the other hand, remains skeptical.
Greene has said that she would have a list of conditions for anybody seeking her support for Speaker of the House. She is specifically looking for Republican representatives. After voting to endorse and serve on the Jan. 6 Select Committee, she wants Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) and Liz Cheney (R-WY) booted out of the Republican Party. Kinzinger has previously said that he would not seek for office again, something Greene seems to have overlooked.
But, to be frank, facts aren’t her forte.
Cheney has said that she plans to run in 2022, and Trump has already backed her opponent, Harriet Hageman, who has just lately jumped on the MAGA Trump train when she saw it was her only way to get the votes.
Greene isn’t the only one. In recent weeks, several Trump supporters have expressed disappointment with McCarthy. He doesn’t seem to pass the MAGA sniff test.
Given congressional district gerrymandering and retiring politicians, new monomaniacal alt-right Republicans might be elected, posing a dilemma for McCarthy if they all stay together. Greene also wants New York Republican Rep. John Katko, the leading member of the House Homeland Security Committee, to resign, because he doesn’t kiss the ring enough.
In fact, she wants him abolished from the Republican Party. Katko represents a swing district, therefore if he votes to the right, he may be replaced by a more moderate Democrat. This scares the hell out of them.
“Katko’s not a Republican. He’s a Democrat,” Greene said. “Our conference and the NRCC needs to stop playing this majority-maker game.”
Greene warned last Wednesday that if Republicans support President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better platform, a “civil war” might erupt.
“Joe Biden didn’t win the 2020 election and everything we’re seeing is a result of that,” Greene told Steve Bannon during an interview on his podcase Real America’s Voice.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) warned on Wednesday that if Republicans support President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better platform, a “civil war” might erupt.
“And it’s going to frustrate our voters,” she explained. “They are sick and tired of electing people over and over again that continue to fail us, continue to create more debt, and continue the long slow slide into a communist country.”
“We need a good plan that restores America back to the republic that it was founded to be,” the Republican lawmaker said. “Because our freedoms are so precious, Steve, that we do not want to lose them, and the only way you get freedom back after you’ve lost it is with the price of blood.”
“And no one wants a civil war in America. And that’s why I’m going to be pushing hard in my Republican conference to hold not only Democrats accountable but Republicans accountable as well,” Greene added.
Greene read the names of Republicans who backed the recently-signed infrastructure measure later in the show.
“Don’t do any death threats,” she said as she urged the audience to confront the 13 Republicans who she has called “traitors.”
Recently Greene stated that she had no real interest in being part of politics anymore.
Greene grumbled on Steve Bannon’s show that too many Republicans in Congress were allegedly hesitant to do what she feels is required to oppose President Joe Biden.
“The stupid Republicans that just won’t push the line and won’t cross the line and won’t go far enough, because they’re scared!” she fumed. “Because somebody might stand up and challenge them, or someone’s going to write a bad news story, or simply whatever it may be!”
Greene accused Republicans of being weak as well.
“It’s not the Democrats that are screwing you, it’s our own party,” she lamented. “And that is what happened, just like you said, Steve, after the Tea Party wave back in 2009 and 2010, when we took over and things that were supposed to be better, the Republican Party turned around and failed us!”
Greene said that it was her failures that motivated her to run for Congress, despite the fact that she later stated, “I don’t want to have anything to do with politics.”
