Left-Wing Billionaires Pay Full Salaries of 80 Journalists Embedded in Major Newsrooms

In Washington, they tell you to follow the money. In journalism, nobody bothers — because the money trail leads right back to the newsroom itself.

Americans who’ve been paying attention know the pattern by now. Every few months, another supposedly grassroots liberal cause turns out to have a billionaire’s signature on the checks. You’d think we’d stop being surprised. The organizations change names, the faces rotate, but the playbook stays the same: wealthy elites funnel cash into institutions that shape what you’re allowed to think.

This time, though, they may have outdone themselves.

A New York Post investigation has exposed a sprawling operation run through a movement called Effective Altruism — a “philosophical” crusade bankrolled by Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, and Skype founder Jaan Tallinn. EA dresses itself up in the language of charity, urging followers to maximize earnings and donate up to fifty percent to EA-approved causes. Its priorities read like a globalist wish list: climate change, AI regulation, open borders, the end of factory farming — everything normal Americans are supposedly begging for.

If the name rings a bell, it should. EA’s most prominent public face was Sam Bankman-Fried — the crypto fraudster now serving twenty-five years in federal prison for swindling billions from investors. His defense in court? He was just trying to be a better Effective Altruist. That tells you everything about the movement’s moral compass.

But what the Post uncovered about EA’s media operation is something else entirely.

Reporters on someone else’s payroll

From the New York Post:

To spread their message the group has the Tarbell Center for AI Journalism — funded in part by EA foundations — which pays full salaries of journalists placed inside such newsrooms as Time, Bloomberg, MIT Technology Review and The Guardian, NBC News, and The Verge. Tarbell states on its website the journalists it funds are impartial, saying: “Our donors have no editorial control over the work of Tarbell, our fellows, or our grantees.”

Let that sink in. Over 80 journalists drawing their entire paychecks from a political organization, sitting inside America’s most influential newsrooms, producing content you’re supposed to trust as independent reporting. And the defense? We don’t influence them. Right. These billionaires spend millions every year on salaries just to not get what they want. If you believe that, there’s a collapsed crypto exchange you might like to invest in.

They aren’t alone, either. The Pulitzer Center runs a parallel AI journalism program largely funded by George Soros, while eBay founder Pierre Omidyar operates his own Reporters in Residence pipeline. Three separate billionaire-funded conveyor belts delivering pre-aligned “journalists” into your morning news. What a coincidence.

From newsrooms to the West Wing

The infiltration doesn’t stop at journalism. Moskovitz personally installed EA followers inside the Biden White House — paying the salaries of aides in the National Security Council, the Pentagon, and the Department of Commerce.

Meanwhile, New York Times columnist Ezra Klein has been running the EA playbook in plain sight for over a decade. His outlet Vox took seed money from Bankman-Fried’s foundation. He uses his Times column to solicit donations for EA-linked charities. He attended a secret retreat to advise Senate Democrats — and nobody at the Times thought this was a problem? Then, in a moment of remarkable honesty on an EA-funded podcast, Klein said the quiet part out loud: “I think foundation funding is good. I like the model of trying to build institutions inside institutions.”

Not a conspiracy theory. His own words.

Who signed the paycheck?

Here’s a thought experiment. Imagine hiring a defense attorney, then discovering the prosecutor was paying the salaries of your lawyer’s entire staff. You wouldn’t call that justice. You’d call it a fix.

That’s what over 80 embedded journalists represent — a fix. Not reporting. Not independence. A purchased narrative delivered through trusted mastheads so you never think to question where it came from.

So the next time NBC runs a breathless segment on the existential dangers of unregulated AI, or Time publishes another piece insisting algorithms should manage society’s resources, I don’t know about you, but I’d like to know one thing.

Who signed the reporter’s paycheck?
