This past Tuesday evening, Jim Acosta, with CNN, issued a statement that Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has made choices that have turned his state into “a Soviet-style police state” by following through with his choice of ending the teaching of Critical Race Theory.
Acosta stated to his guest, Molly Jong-Fast of The Atlantic, “I seem to remember Glenn Youngkin campaigning, in a fleece vest in Virginia. He was running as a different kind of Republican. I was told there was going to be a vest, not a Soviet-style police state across the Potomac from Washington.”
The states recently implemented Critical Race Theory (CRT) ban displays how “the culture wars are also contributing to the erosion of democracy,” claimed Acosta as part of his special named “Democracy In Peril, which first hit the air at 7 P.M. “The new culture wars are impacting our laws. And some experts fear, they could be weakening our democracy, just as badly as the Big Lie,” the Nazi-era slogan that CNN has taken to applying to questioning the 2020 presidential election.
Acosta then went on to accuse Youngkin of “pitting citizen against citizen” immediately after showing a clip of the new governor issuing a promise to remove “inherently divisive teaching practices out of the schools.” Acosta seemed angered by the dropping of the racially polarizing CRT curriculum from all schools run via taxpayer funds, which was the main campaign promise set by Youngkin and Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears, which Acosta went on to state outright violates “the traditional conservative tenets of liberty, anti-censorship and freedom.”
Acosta then took time out of the segment to criticize Youngkin for the setting up of a process for parents to issue their complaints about if public school teachers disregard his order and go on to violate the law and teach the racially divisive concepts, such as making the claim that all people of a certain race are just inherently out to oppress all members of other races. Acosta few a parallel of the measure to the Texas Heartbeat law. “How concerned should we be, about these laws that seem to be catching on of, citizens ratting each other out? he questioned of Jong-Fast, going on to add that they encourage “canceling your neighbor across the street or next door.”
After a deep dive of CNN transcripts, there was no instance in which Acosta issued his condemnation on Democrats who encouraged citizens to snitch on their neighbors for going against any COVID-19 lockdown orders. “You know the old expression about snitches. Well, in this case, snitches get rewards,” stated Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti (D) back in March of 2020. “We want to thank you for turning folks in and making sure we are all safe.”
Acosta’s statement concerning the Old Dominion received extreme backlash. “I’m a Virginia resident and am a daughter of folks who *actually* lived under a Soviet police state. I can assure you @GovernorVA isn’t Stalin or remotely Sovietesque,” stated Gabriella Hoffman in a tweet. “Shame on you, @Acosta. Don’t invoke Soviet horrors that hurt many of our families.”
Another user facetiously stated, “The freedom to make individual choices was a hallmark of the Soviet-style police state.” Many others stated that the extreme hyperbole was definitely in line with the legacy media’s standards. “This coming [from] the Pravda network,” stated one user.
