It’s common knowledge that politicians frequently flip-flop on policy. They’re adroitly gifted at presenting the perfect narrative at precisely the right moment. Unfortunately, this isn’t always a positive trait.
Voters think their candidate believes in one thing, only to find out the truth is quite the opposite. Former president Bill Clinton actually earned an iconic Doonesbury cartoon comparison to a “waffle”.
This political wishy-washiness is, in actuality, nothing but lying. When people, politicians included, say one thing but mean or do something completely different, it fits into the same category as telling a bald-faced lie.
These scandalous scoundrels know no shame. But Americans have somehow developed an inherent tendency to give political figures a free pass on not telling the truth. It doesn’t seem fair, and ultimately tends to prove rather counterproductive.
Certain comments made by a former Democrat presidential candidate regarding the Second Amendment are case in point. Now, radical gun-grabbing liberals were all on board with Beto O’Rourke’s harsh condemnation of Second Amendment rights while on the 2020 campaign trail.
In flamboyant fashion, O’Rourke blasted into his microphone, “Hell yes, I’m going to take your AR-15, your AK-47.” Make no mistake about it; Beto O’Rourke is anti-gun and anti-Second Amendment. He meant what he said, 100 percent.
Well, now that O’Rourke failed in his attempt at the White House, he’s focused his efforts on trying to move into the Governor’s mansion in his home state of Texas. Prior to his failed attempt at the Democrat nomination for president, O’Rourke gave Texas Senator Ted Cruz a run for his money in 2018.
Every time, O’Rourke made a vocal stance as standing heavily for invasive gun control measures. Even as recently as November 2021, he redoubled his efforts to target lawful gun owners.
Interviewing on fake news CNN’s “State of the Union”, O’Rourke repeated his intention to take guns from Texans, if he’s elected governor. Texas Republican congressman Lance Gooden called O’Rourke out for his anti-gun rhetoric.
Gooden tweeted, “Today, Beto O’Rourke stood by his pledge to CONFISCATE guns from law-abiding Americans. How many elections does Beto have to lose until he realizes voters HATE his anti-2nd Amendment agenda?”

Well, maybe Beto is trying to reinvigorate the old “waffle” cartoon reference. A quote by O’Rourke recently surfaced about these same Second Amendment rights that he targeted adamantly.
ABC Channel 7 KLTV broadcast O’Rourke’s comments outside Tyler’s Glass Recreation Center. Answering reporter’s questions about his stance on gun control, he replied, “I’m not interested in taking anything from anyone. What I want to make sure that we do is defend the Second Amendment.”

That pretty much meets the definition of a “political 180”. It’s a total flip-flop from O’Rourke’s exact words, quoted on multiple occasions. So, which is it? Is Beto O’Rourke hell-bent on stripping the constitutional right to bear arms, or is he for the Second Amendment?
Using the telltale political technique of waffling, O’Rourke now seems to advocate for both sides on this issue. That’s a pretty convenient place to situate yourself. Until, of course, the rubber meets the road.
Second Amendment advocates in Texas should be very wary. This has all the signs of a strategic lie. Just compare the intensity with which O’Rourke makes these two drastically opposite policy beliefs. In one instance, he screams into the microphone like a crazed rock star, hoping to fire up an audience.
However, his most recent denial of a previous “gun-grabbing ideology” was a weakened response that was all too obviously a lie. As an anti-gun radical liberal, his chances of becoming the next Governor of Texas are somewhat of a long shot.
He’s running against an incumbent, plus he would be the first Democrat elected to that office since 1990. The majority of Texans, both Democrat and Republican, are proud legal gun owners. Neither has much sense in supporting someone who will push to confiscate guns.
Beto O’Rourke knows this. He’s not telling the truth. O’Rourke truly is anti-gun and anti-Second Amendment. It’s always been a leading part of his campaign platform. Texans better not trust him. Beto O’Rourke is just another conniving liberal politician, perfected in the art of “waffling”.
