ICE Goes After the Worst Offenders
Federal immigration agents made a big haul on Thursday, arresting several convicted killers, a rapist, and multiple drug traffickers in one day. That is not a small cleanup job, and it is not the kind of people any sane country should be leaving in the neighborhood. Homeland Security officials said the arrests were part of the Trump administration’s push to target what they call the “worst of the worst” among criminal illegal immigrants. Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said ICE arrested “multiple murderers, rapists, and drug traffickers from our communities,” and added that nearly 70% of ICE arrests are of illegal aliens charged or convicted of a crime in the U.S. That number matters because the left keeps pretending immigration enforcement is some kind of abstract paperwork fight, while law enforcement is out there dealing with real criminals.
Names Behind the Arrests Tell the Story
DHS listed several of the people arrested Thursday, and the crimes are serious. Roque Cinto-Mejia, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, was convicted of manslaughter in Brooklyn, New York. Alejandro De Jesus-De La Cruz, also from Mexico, was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in San Bernardino, California. Francisco Antonio Morales-Acencio, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala, was convicted of rape, assault, and battery of a family member in Fairfax, Virginia. Heriberto Mendoza-Pineda, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, was convicted of trafficking methamphetamine in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Manuel Soto, from the Dominican Republic, was twice convicted of drug possession and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute in Boston, Massachusetts. These are not harmless headlines or “just family men” with a rough patch. These are people with violent or drug-related records who were still living in our communities.
Why This Sweep Matters to Families
The point of immigration enforcement should be simple: protect the public first. That means finding dangerous people before they hurt anyone else. DHS says ICE officers are putting their lives on the line every day to remove criminals from American communities, and that is exactly the kind of work taxpayers expect when they fund border and interior enforcement. The ugly truth is that open-border politics always sounds compassionate until the bill comes due in stolen lives, drug deaths, and neighborhood violence. The law-abiding public should never have to play host to convicted killers and drug traffickers because politicians want applause from activists. If an immigration system cannot focus on public safety first, then it is not broken by accident. It is broken by design.
