ICE Cites 22 Violent Crimes by Illegal Immigrants in Virginia, Blames Gov. Spanberger’s Sanctuary Policies

There was a time when Americans could rely on one basic promise from their government: it would protect them. Not micromanage their lives, not redistribute their earnings – just keep them safe from people who mean them harm. That was the deal. Simple enough that it transcended party lines for generations. But in states where progressive ideology now drives the bus, that deal is dead.

Virginia – birthplace of the Constitution, home of Jefferson and Madison – has become a case study in what happens when a governor prizes woke credentials over her own citizens’ safety. Under Democratic Gov. Abigail Spanberger, the Old Dominion has wrapped itself in sanctuary policies that shield criminal illegal immigrants from federal enforcement. The results have been catastrophic, and the body count keeps climbing.

From Fox News:

Anger is boiling over at Virginia Democratic Gov. Abigail Spanberger and sanctuary-friendly politicians over “out of control” killings in the state after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) asked the state not to allow the release of yet another illegal immigrant charged with carrying out a stabbing spree.

ICE sent a request to Spanberger and “her fellow sanctuary politicians” not to release Mexican illegal immigrant Freddi Chigo Mil following his arrest for allegedly stabbing two women on the streets of Staunton, Virginia, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Police responding to the incident found Mil at the scene along with two stabbed women, one of whom was pronounced dead while the other was transported to a local hospital.

A pattern written in blood

Here’s what happened. Shortly before 4 a.m. on August 30, Staunton police responded to an open-line 911 call on Orchard Avenue. They found two women stabbed. One was dead. The other was rushed to UVA hospital. Freddi Chigo Mil, a 32-year-old Mexican national who entered the country illegally, was standing right there. He now faces charges of second-degree murder and aggravated malicious wounding.

That very same day – hours later, in a different Virginia community – ICE arrested Salvadoran illegal immigrant Yinmi Molina-Zepeda in Woodbridge. Turns out he’s wanted back home for aggravated homicide. Two violent illegal immigrants. Two Virginia towns. One calendar day.

Jennifer Harrison of the Victims’ Rights Reform Council captured the lunacy perfectly: “We have reached a point where the federal government has to ask state and local officials not to release dangerous illegal immigrants back into American communities. Think about how insane that is.”

She’s right. The federal government is essentially begging a governor to please, pretty please, not turn a murder suspect loose.

The “moderate” who won’t moderate her sanctuary stance

Spanberger’s office fired back with the kind of sanitized statement that practically writes itself. A spokesperson declared that the governor “strongly believes violent criminals who are in the United States illegally should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and deported.”

Strongly believes. Wonderful. And yet her executive actions have restricted ICE cooperation and dismantled agreements between state agencies and federal immigration authorities. The words say one thing. The policy does the opposite. Pick one, Governor.

Harrison shredded the pretense, calling out “politicians like Spanberger who call themselves ‘moderate Democrats’ while implementing policies that put criminals ahead of victims and public safety.” That label – moderate – is doing an awful lot of heavy lifting for a governor whose policies read like a progressive wish list.

Twenty-two failures, one governor

The Staunton stabbing isn’t some isolated tragedy. The Department of Homeland Security has now documented 22 cases of violent crime committed by illegal immigrants in Virginia this year. The charges span child pornography, sex offenses against children, murder, rape, and abduction. Twenty-two preventable horrors in nine months.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin was blunt: “This is what the Commonwealth of Virginia has become under the sanctuary policies of Gov. Abigail Spanberger and her fellow sanctuary politicians.”

Sean Kennedy, president of Virginians for Safe Communities, drove the blade deeper. “Spanberger’s actions are not pro-immigrant,” he said. “They are pro-criminal.” He added that the victims’ “faces should haunt the governor when she looks in the mirror.”

Hard to argue with that.

The fundamental duty of any governor is to safeguard the people who elected her. When a state government actively obstructs federal agencies trying to remove violent criminals from its communities, it hasn’t merely failed. It has picked a side. And it isn’t the side of the woman who bled out on Orchard Avenue at four in the morning.

Kennedy’s final words deserve to ring in Richmond: “They didn’t have to die. She only had to follow the law, not her agenda.”

Virginia’s voters will eventually get their turn at the ballot box. The grim question is how many more will pay the price before that day arrives.

Key Takeaways

  • ICE must formally beg Virginia’s governor not to release an accused murderer.
  • DHS has documented 22 violent crimes by illegal immigrants in Virginia this year alone.
  • Spanberger claims to support deportation while actively blocking ICE cooperation.
  • Every one of these tragedies was preventable if the law had been followed.
