When the Border Story Became the Story
The far-left MS NOW network, formerly known as MSNBC, sent Antonia Hylton and a crew to Texas’s Big Bend region for the debut of The Assignment. Their report focused on opposition from local landowners to government efforts to obtain private property for border barriers through eminent domain. But the crew’s own trip took an unexpected turn when its Jeep Wagoneer became stranded in the remote desert shortly after a visit to the Alvarado Ranch. The planned border segment suddenly had a very different kind of field report.
Border Patrol Had to Come Looking
As the sun went down, the Jeep bottomed out, leaving the crew in need of help as darkness descended. Hylton said, “As the sun went down, our Jeep Wagoneer bottomed out in the desert.” Eight Border Patrol agents arrived in four different trucks to rescue the crew. The situation became even more difficult because three of those four Border Patrol vehicles also became trapped during the rescue. That is not exactly the smoothest production day, especially for a crew covering the border.

The Video Captures the Awkward Ending
The video gives viewers a sense of the story MS NOW set out to report before reaching the unplanned ending in the desert. Instead of closing only with a discussion about land, barriers, and eminent domain, the segment ends with the crew’s vehicle stuck and Border Patrol agents coming to the rescue. The contrast is hard to miss. A crew reporting on a contentious border issue ended up relying on the very agency that had to navigate the harsh terrain to reach them.
Social Media Added the Punchline
The rescue itself was enough to create an unusual bit of border irony, but social media supplied an extra punchline. After the rescue video was shared, one X user responded with the blunt suggestion, “Deport them.” That comment was a jab, not an account of any actual government action. Still, the episode needed very little embellishment. Eight Border Patrol agents went out in four trucks, three rescue vehicles got stuck, and the MS NOW crew made it out with a story that probably did not appear on the original assignment sheet.
