Election Auditor Says Apparent Illegal Votes Outnumber Mamdani’s Victory Margin

A Victory Margin Meets Some Very Uncomfortable Math

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s 2025 win is now facing hard questions after election-integrity activist Marly Hornik said her review found apparent illegal votes that outnumbered his reported margin of victory. Hornik, founder of RealAmerica.Vote and NY Citizens Audit, is not claiming she can prove Mamdani lost. In fact, she said the real problem is worse in one sense: according to her, the New York City and New York State Boards of Elections may not know whether the result was clean either. That is not exactly the warm blanket of trust voters were hoping for from the people paid to run elections.

Hornik Says Her Group Reviewed One Million Voters

During a July 22 interview on WABC’s “Sid & Friends in the Morning,” Hornik said her organization studied about 1 million of the 2.2 million voters who took part in the race. She said they found 7 percent of those voters could not be found in records, 6 percent had fake Social Security numbers, and 10 percent did not live in New York City. Hornik said that added up to 230,000 apparently illegal votes in the portion reviewed, while Mamdani’s reported victory margin over former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who ran as an independent, was 207,000 votes.

The Rest Of The Voter File Has Not Been Reviewed

One key detail makes the claim even more serious: Hornik said her team had not yet reviewed the remaining 1.2 million voters. She told host Sid Rosenberg that the issue is not simply whether Mamdani won or lost, but whether election officials are running fair elections that protect voters’ constitutional right to choose their representatives. That is a fair question. If voters are told to accept results while basic voter information cannot be verified, the public is being asked to trust a black box with a “please don’t look inside” sticker on it.

Potential Misconduct Is Now Part Of The Claim

In a July 19 WABC appearance, Hornik went further and said the statistics her group uncovered could point to serious misconduct by both city and state election boards. She said her team could not verify the name, date of birth, or voting address for 7 percent of voters they checked, describing them as people who “don’t exist” based on the records available to her organization. Those are claims that deserve careful review, because election confidence does not come from speeches, slogans, or official pats on the head. It comes from clean rolls, real voters, transparent records, and consequences when systems fail.

Federal Authorities Have The Findings, Hornik Says

Hornik said she has already sent her findings to federal investigators and prosecutors. Her argument is that when legal voters have their votes diluted or harmed, that is a serious civil rights matter, not a paperwork oopsie hiding in a dusty filing cabinet. Whether federal officials act on the information remains to be seen, but the numbers she described are too large to shrug off. When an alleged problem is bigger than the winning margin, voters have every right to demand answers without being scolded by the usual election-denial hall monitors.

Naomi Wolf Weighs In On The Ballot Questions

Author and journalist Naomi Wolf also pointed to concerns about the New York City election, claiming on X that more than 100,000 blank votes that should have been discarded were counted. Wolf said that when she showed the issue live on her podcast using the Board of Elections website, the site went down for 45 minutes. Her claims are separate from Hornik’s review, but together they add pressure on officials to explain exactly what happened, how votes were counted, and whether the public record can stand up to basic scrutiny.
