Colorado ICE Detention Worker Arrested for Attempted Murder After Shooting Protester Blocking Access

Worker Arrested After Shooting Near Aurora ICE Facility

A worker connected to the Aurora ICE Processing Center in Colorado was arrested Thursday night after police say a woman protesting near the facility was shot in the lower body. Aurora Police identified the man as 42-year-old Brandon Booth, an employee of GEO Group, the private contractor tied to the facility. Officers responded shortly before 7:30 p.m. on July 16, 2026, to the 3100 block of North Nome Street after reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found two women, one wounded and one unharmed. The injured woman was taken to a hospital, and police said her injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. That is a mercy in a story that could have ended far worse.

Police Say Protest Blocked Employees From Getting To Work

According to Aurora Police, the women had been part of a protest near the ICE facility earlier that evening, and Booth was waiting in his vehicle with other employees because the protest was impeding their ability to get into the facility for their shifts. Police said the two women started a verbal confrontation and took pictures of employees’ vehicles before walking away. That detail matters, because protests around immigration enforcement facilities have become a regular pressure tactic, and blocking workers from getting to their jobs is not exactly a master class in civic virtue. Still, police say what happened next crossed a bright legal and moral line.

Investigators Say Booth Fired One Shot

Aurora Police said their initial investigation found that Booth retrieved a personally owned pistol and fired one shot in the direction of the two women, striking one of them in the lower body. Police said Booth then got into his vehicle and drove away before officers stopped him a short distance from the scene. The vehicle was seized, and police said the gun was found inside. Booth was later booked on probable cause of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, attempted first-degree assault, felony menacing, and unlawful carrying of a concealed weapon. Formal charging decisions will be up to the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, as they should be, because accusations still have to be proven in court.

Aurora Police Promise Full Review

Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain called the incident “a tragedy on all fronts” and said the department would investigate it with transparency and integrity. He also said violence of any kind will not be tolerated in Aurora, adding that constitutional rights are central to a just society, while violence is not. That is the right standard. Americans have the right to protest, even loudly and obnoxiously. Workers also have the right to go to work without being harassed or trapped outside a facility. But nobody gets to turn a political standoff into a shooting gallery. This case will now depend on evidence, witness statements, any video, and the judgment of prosecutors.

Police Ask Public For Information

The case remains under active investigation, and Aurora Police are asking anyone with additional information, including footage from the area, to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP, which is 720-913-7867. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000. In a tense political climate, this is where facts need to do the talking. The country has enough people yelling past each other already, and the justice system does not need social media referees calling balls and strikes from the cheap seats.
