We live in an age of misinformation and lies. One of the most glaring examples is the 2020 Presidential Election. Mounds of misinformation were spewed across various media platforms. Social media was a haven for lies and deception.
The left-wing media always wants to target so-called “radical conservative groups” as the culprits. However, in recent reports from the FBI, impostors carried out some of these manipulative plots.
One incident involves a group of Iranian hackers who posed as members of “Proud Boys”. This group led a concerted effort to spread disinformation and interfere in the 2020 U.S. election. The group is known as Emennett Pasargad.
Two Iranian nationalists were indicted by a grand jury in October. With this indictment came the release of the methods used by this group to compromise the election. Emennett Pasargad got their hands on confidential voter information.
The group used this information to send threatening emails. Emennett Pasargad also broadcast videos containing misinformation about various U.S. voting systems. The Iranian group also targeted several voting websites across multiple U.S. states.
Hackers from the group also gained illegal access to a prominent U.S. media company, whose identity remains classified. This same group of Iranian hackers has orchestrated cyber attacks and disinformation campaigns against Saudi Arabia.
The group used the cover name of the “Yemen Cyber Army”. Emennett Pasargad hides their activities by exploiting virtual private networks (VPNs), which are extremely difficult to trace. Various software programs, including the popular WordPress website builder, are vulnerable.
The Proud Boys, like many of America’s more radical groups, are frequently blamed for things they are not responsible. There are some who accused them of this specific incident. However, FBI investigators have exonerated the Proud Boys. This time it really was the Iranians.
