In a 36-page report, a former National Guard official accused Michael Flynn’s brother and another US Army general of lying to Congress about the military reaction to the Jan. 6 insurgency.
According to Politico, Col. Earl Matthews, who served in Donald Trump’s administration at the National Security Council and the Pentagon, blasted the Defense Department’s inspector general for issuing an erroneous report that protects a top Army official who delayed sending the National Guard to the US Capitol.
“Every leader in the D.C. Guard wanted to respond and knew they could respond to the riot at the seat of government,” Matthews’ memo reads.
The memo, which Matthews sent to a House select committee earlier this month, detailed the response to the riot by Gen. Charles Flynn, who was deputy chief of staff for operations on Jan. 6, and Lt. Gen. Walter Piatt, the director of Army staff — whom he called “absolute and unmitigated liars” in congressional testimony for their own accounts of the day.
Both Flynn and Piatt are accused of lying about their responses to calls for the D.C. Guard to be summoned swiftly to aid Capitol police, according to the letter. It also says that a report produced by the Pentagon inspector general last month was “replete with factual mistakes,” and that the Army was seeking to rewrite history with a document “worthy of the best Stalinist or North Korean propagandist.”
Matthews, who is currently in the Army reserves, has publicly appealed for the inspector general’s report from January 6 to be retracted, calling it “inaccurate” and “sloppy work.”
“Matthews’ memo calls…[Mike Flynn’s brother] Charles Flynn, who served as deputy chief of staff for [Pentagon] ops on January 6…[an] ‘absolute and unmitigated liar’ for [his] characterization of the events of that day [before Congress].” https://t.co/aHUFGTY7mY

“Our Army has never failed us and did not do so on January 6, 2021,” Matthews told Politico. “However, occasionally some of our Army leaders have failed us and they did so on January 6th. Then they lied about it and tried to cover it up. They tried to smear a good man and to erase history.”
Charles’ brother, Michael Flynn, made headlines back in November when he advocated for Christianity to become the United States’ exclusive religion during a three-day conference in San Antonio, Texas, as part of the “ReAwaken America” tour.
“We must have one religion if we are to have one nation under God, which we must. There is only one nation under God and only one religion under God “Flynn recently discussed his Christian faith in an attempt to disprove QAnon’s assertions that he worships Satan.
Flynn also talked about former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, who was indicted by a federal grand jury for refusing to comply with a subpoena issued by the House Select Committee investigating the Capitol incident on January 6. The indictment, according to Flynn, is an “abuse of freedom of speech.”
Flynn also revealed that he has taped a program for “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on what he refers to as the “insurrection crucifixion,” in which he compares House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Pontius Pilate, the biblical figure who ordered Jesus’ death.
“This is the crucifixion of our First Amendment freedom to speak, freedom to peacefully assemble. It’s unbelievable,” Flynn said.
