NYC Mayor Eric Adams Slashes Police, Education Budgets to Support Illegal Immigrants

Democratic Mayor Eric Adams announced significant cuts to the city’s Police and Education Department budgets. These drastic measures, according to Adams, are necessary to grapple with the ongoing illegal immigration crisis that is pounding New York City.

The budget cuts will freeze police hiring, reducing the number of NYPD officers to below 30,000, as reported by The New York Times. Additionally, the city’s Education Department budget will be slashed by more than $1 billion over the next two years, impacting school programs and libraries.

Adams stated, “No city should be left to handle a national humanitarian crisis largely on its own, and without the significant and timely support we need from Washington, D.C. Today’s budget will be only the beginning.” This statement comes in the wake of Adams warning that such budget cuts would be “extremely painful for New Yorkers.”

These cuts to the NYPD come just a month after Adams acknowledged the city’s need for more police officers in light of rising felony and misdemeanor assaults and car thefts. Leftist Democrats have criticized Adams for cutting funding for crucial programs such as summer school and universal kindergarten.

New York City, with a budget of $110 billion, is projected to spend $12 billion providing food and shelter for illegal immigrants through the 2025 fiscal year, according to city officials. More than 130,000 illegal immigrants have arrived in the city since last year. Mayor Adams has repeatedly urged the Biden administration to enforce immigration laws at the border and assist NYC in aiding the illegal immigrants who have made it to the city.

Last month, Adams warned that the influx of illegal immigrants being bused to major cities after crossing the border is “not sustainable.” He noted that the number of illegal immigrants arriving in NYC weekly had surged from 2,400 people to 4,000 people.

Adams was scheduled to meet with the Biden administration in Washington, D.C., to discuss the border crisis earlier this month but had to cancel due to an FBI investigation into his campaign’s alleged conspiracy with the Turkish government.

The drastic budget cuts amidst the illegal immigration crisis paint a bleak picture for NYC residents, but guess what? THIS IS WHAT DEMOCRATS VOTED FOR! Too bad…you reap what you sow.
