This year certainly didn’t go as planned for Joe and Jill Biden. At the start of 2024, they figured that they would be ending the year by preparing for another four years in the White House after defeating Donald Trump.
Then, the June presidential debate happened between Biden and Trump. There, Biden’s apparent cognitive failings were on full display for the world as Trump completely trounced him.
Biden’s debate performance was so bad that he lost the faith of the Democrat establishment, which immediately began pressuring him to drop out of the race. Biden held out for as long as he could, but he finally complied with their demands in July. Within hours, the Democrat establishment had anointed Kamala Harris as his replacement. They didn’t even give their own voters a say in a primary.
Of course, Harris went on to lose the presidential election to Trump, just as Biden likely would have. Given how embarrassing this entire ordeal has been for Biden, however, many wondered if he and his bitter wife, Jill, would even be up for attending the Trump inauguration. Now, the answer to this has been revealed.
From The Hill:
“The president promised that he would attend the inauguration of whomever won the election. He and the first lady are going to honor that promise and attend the inauguration,” White House senior deputy press secretary Andrew Bates told reporters Monday.Bates said Monday that Biden views attending the inauguration “as an important demonstration of commitment to our democratic values and to honoring the will of the people as we continue to provide an orderly and effective transition.”
The president in August suggested he would attend a January 2025 swearing-in for Trump if he won the 2024 race, while taking a jab at his predecessor’s manners.
“I have good manners, not like him,” the president said at the time.

How typical of a Democrat like Biden to be unable to resist taking a jab at Trump while addressing attending his inauguration. So much for “when they go low, we go high!”
Biden Commits To ‘A Peaceful Transition Of Power’
Since Trump won the election, beating Harris in both the Electoral College and the popular vote, Biden has claimed to be committed to “a peaceful transition of power.”
“I will do my duty as president. I will fulfill my oath; I will honor the Constitution,” Biden said earlier this month. “On Jan. 20, we will have a peaceful transition of power here in America.”

Biden has also met with Trump in the White House in the wake of his election victory. Trump’s wife, Melania, however, declined Jill’s invitation to meet for tea while their husbands talked.
One interesting moment that will likely come at Trump’s inauguration will be Biden coming face to face with former President Barack Obama. Indeed, it’s long been rumored that Obama was one of the top members of the Democrat establishment who forced Biden out of the race.
This was undoubtedly a stab in the back for Biden, who served as Obama’s vice president for eight years. This could make for some awkward conversation as they both watch as Trump is inaugurated for the second time!

Regardless of anything else, it will be fun to watch Democrats like the Bidens, Obamas, and Clintons be forced to watch Trump be inaugurated again. In the end, January 20 can’t come soon enough!
Key Takeaways:
- Joe and Jill Biden will attend Trump’s inauguration.
- Biden is committed to a “peaceful transition of power.”
- Biden may have an awkward run-in with Obama.
