The Duggars have been in the news quite a bit lately. Most notably, it has been about Josh Duggar who was recently found guilty of the charges brought against him. At this point, it really didn’t come as too much of a surprise after all that we’ve learned about him over the years.
I’ve typically shied away from discussing them for the most part, but this time I thought it would be helpful to mention some details of what happened during the incident with the oldest Duggar daughter, Jana.
We learned that a few months ago it was reported that there was some sort of incident involving Jana and a child who managed to escape her care.
Jana actually explained what had happened:
“I’m only sharing this because the media has been having a field day with it all. I prefer a more private life, but I know my last name means that everything we do is open to public criticism and interest, especially during this time.
The raw facts: I was babysitting a few months ago when one of the children wandered outside alone. A passerby who saw the child called the police. This resulted in a written citation, as well as a follow-up with child welfare who concluded that it was an accident and the child was unharmed. They recognized it was a case of a child slipping out of the house when you turn your back for a moment. It all happened so quickly and was scary. I am grateful for law enforcement and those who protect and serve our community. I was certainly never arrested like some may have implied. In the end I was just upset at myself that it happened at all, but so thankful it all ended safely and that’s truly what mattered the most to me.”
She did plead guilty to the incident and paid some fines and fees of around $880.
Honestly, I don’t think we should be too critical of this. I could honestly happen to anyone, and it’s likely that it’s happened to you in your life already if you have kids or have ever watched kids. They’re fast and sneaky and it sounds like the kid was still on their property. Let’s not give into the Cancel Culture, but instead, let’s have an attitude of understanding, charity, and forgiveness.
