In the midst of the holiday season, many enjoy splurging on a host of Christmas movie favorites. Some of the more popular Yuletide films in the comedy genre are the six movies in the “Home Alone” franchise. They’re funny; they’re family oriented, and each is especially festive.
However, this holiday season isn’t going to be as festive for one of the characters. True to form, bully big brother Buzz McCallister may turn out to be a “real-life bully”. In fact, Devin Ratray, who plays Kevin’s (Macaulay Culkin) mean older brother, is accused of being a domestic brute.
Recently, Ratray turned himself in to Oklahoma City Police. He was booked on domestic violence charges. The individual who played the insensitive bully Buzz is accused of domestic assault and battery by strangulation.
Since money is rarely a problem for Hollywood types, Ratray posted a paltry $25,000 bond and was released less than 15-minutes after posing for his “mug portrait”. The victim alleges that Ratray punched her in the face and tried to choke her.
She is quoted in the report saying Ratray screamed, “This is how you die.” The reason behind the violent attack was supposedly because Ratray was heavily intoxicated. This is a poor excuse for abominable behavior. Drunk or not, if true, it’s reprehensible.
Ratray’s representative insisted that the ordeal was nothing more than a heated argument, followed by a harmless breakup. Bruises and marks on the victim seem to tell a different story. By all accounts in the police report, “Buzz” may be more than just a bully in the movies.
As most enjoy the pleasures of friends and family this holiday season, one person won’t be quite as welcome. Hopefully, if guilty, Devin Ratray will experience his own version of “Home Alone”. Nevertheless, everyone has the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
However, if guilty of the monstrous crime he is alleged to have committed, Ratray needs a dose of “solitary confinement”. Instead of indulging in one of the “Home Alone” films he starred, maybe Ratray should watch “The “Shawshank Redemption”.
