Chuck Todd Tried To Play Gotcha Politics But Instead Got Schooled By A Scientist

Vivek Ramaswamy, a Harvard-educated biologist and Yale-educated lawyer, was recently interviewed by NBC News anchor Chuck Todd on the issue of gender confusion in children and teenagers. During the interview, Todd questioned Ramaswamy’s position that affirming gender confusion in minors is “cruelty” and asked how it was compassionate to deny parents the right to make health care decisions for their children.

Ramaswamy responded by pointing out that laws already exist limiting what minors can do with their bodies, such as purchasing and consuming tobacco. He argued that it is perfectly legitimate to say that minors should not be allowed to undergo genital mutilation or chemical castration through puberty blockers for the purpose of transitioning.

Todd then invoked biology, asking Ramaswamy if he was confident that gender is as binary as he described it. Ramaswamy responded that he is, citing his background as a scientist. Todd then asked if Ramaswamy knew gender is not a spectrum, to which Ramaswamy replied that he was confident in his position.

Ramaswamy further explained that the DSM-5, the accepted handbook for mental disorders, includes “gender dysphoria” and has historically characterized it as a mental health disorder. He argued that it is not compassionate to affirm gender confusion in children and teenagers but rather “cruelty.”

Ramaswamy’s perspective on gender and gender dysphoria is controversial and has sparked debate among many, but he stands firm in his beliefs. He believes that minors should not be subjected to irreversible medical treatments before they are capable of making informed decisions about their own bodies.

Ramaswamy’s interview with Todd is a reminder that the issue of gender and gender dysphoria is complex and multifaceted. It raises questions about the role of parents in making decisions for their children, the boundaries of medical intervention in the lives of minors, and the definition of gender itself. Ramaswamy was not phased by Todd’s clear bias and delivered a powerhouse interview, not giving in to Todd’s gotcha and identity politics.
