Tara Reade, the former Senate staffer to Joe Biden who accused him of sexual assault in 2020, has defected to Russia.
The defection of Reade, who currently resides in Moscow, was announced in an interview with the pro–Vladimir Putin news outlet Sputnik during a press conference. Reade stated that she “felt very surrounded by protection and safety” after her decision was finalized.
The accusation of assault dates back to March of 2020, when Reade claimed that Joe Biden had sexually assaulted her while she served as an aide in his Senate offices during the Clinton administration. Two former acquaintances of hers have also stated that she told them of the alleged assault in the 1990s.
At the press conference, Reade was joined by Maria Butina, a convicted Russian agent jailed in the US who is now a member of parliament in Russia.
During the press conference, Reade expressed that the protection and safety provided by the Russian government were two of the reasons she chose to defect.
“I just didn‘t want to walk home and walk into a cage or be killed, which is basically my two choices,” Reade said.
Tara Reade has become one of the most prominent Americans to defect to Russia, joining former NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden.
“Just know that most American citizens do want to be friends and hope that we can have unity again,” Reade said in her press conference.
House Republicans had hoped to have Tara Reade testify in Congress earlier this month, though Reade issued a cryptic statement later on, indicating that her life could be in danger.
“If something happens to me, all roads lead to Joe Biden,” Reade wrote. “Joe Biden and DNC political machine threats, bullying and intimidation over the last three years will not work.”

Joe Biden has adamantly denied the accusation from Reade. However, it is clear that Tara Reade does not feel safe in the United States, and she has chosen to relocate to Russia instead.
