Joseph McCarthy and Ted Cruz are both despicable people says GOP consultant Steve Schmidt

Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) appearance on “Face the Nation” on Sunday devolved into a diatribe about what a “liar” he is.

Former George W. Bush strategist Steve Schmidt dubbed Texas Senator Ted Cruz a “historically despicable person” on MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace, comparing him to Sen. Joe McCarthy (R-WI).

“These people … from Paul Gosar (R-AZ), who has raised money from a Holocaust denier, who has aligned himself with white nationalists and white supremacists,” said Schmidt. “No hyperbole at all involved. He ideated about the murder of a Congresswoman. Matt Gaetz, all the rest of them are — they’re loony. They’re, crazy. Lauren Boebert, six or seven different arrests on her criminal jacket. These political extremists are in charge of the Republican Party.”

He went on to say that although the facts are widely known, the issue is that the Republican Party is aiding in the spread of cancer inside their party. Schmidt also predicted that if Republicans retake the House, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) would have a tough time serving as Speaker. Schmidt wants Democrats to run as a party against these kind of individuals in order to send a clear message that the GOP has shifted substantially.

Schmidt noted after seeing Cruz’s CBS interview that Cruz is fully aware that he is telling falsehoods.

Ted Cruz “is a historically despicable person. He ranks up there with Joe McCarthy,” said Schmidt. “He’s a demagogue. He’s a liar. He’s as irresponsible United States senator as there has ever been in the history of the United States. He arrived in the Senate and has been a vandal towards our institutions and towards the idea of the truth and delivering it to the American people. ”

He went on to accuse GOP elites like as Cruz and Kayleigh McEnany, both Harvard grads, of seeking to “play supporters for fools if they can accrete power to themselves.”

“When you look at somebody like Ted Cruz, you know he’s lying. Everybody knows he’s lying. Ted Cruz knows he’s lying,” Schmidt said. “But extraordinary cynicism coupled with the type of propaganda that comes out of Fox News and the right-wing can turn that nonsense into reality. So, Ted Cruz helped incite the Jan. 6th attacks with his lying, with instigations. He was, of course, revving up the crowd there that morning. And he has sought to whitewash it with more lying for many, many months. He is a truly despicable figure at a moment of real crisis.”

Former Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill (D) slammed the Fox News juggernaut, which is now attempting to blame the Jan. 6 assault on Joe Biden. According to reports, if Biden had not been elected, January 6 would not have occurred. It’s a blatant domestic violence argument typically used by abusers who say things like “you’re making me to hurt you.”

McCaskill went on to add that Ted Cruz was so anxious to be relevant that he battled Trump nonstop until the nomination was finalized. Then he pleaded to speak out in Trump’s favor at the RNC gathering.

“He is so desperate to be relevant, he will sacrifice everything, everything to do it,” she said. “And by the way, Kevin McCarthy is the same way. And Mitch McConnell is the same way. And so are another host of Republican leaders that have not just allowed the Marjorie Taylor Greenes and the Boberts, and crazy Gosars to take over. They have given them their power willingly. It is astounding.”

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) retaliated against Cruz last week after he accused her of having “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

According to CNN’s Melanie Zanona, Cheney was questioned about Cruz’s claims that former President Donald Trump “broke” her mentally during a Fox News interview.

Cheney didn’t spend any time retaliating.

“Trump broke Ted Cruz,” Cheney told Zanona. “A real man would be defending his wife, and his father, and the Constitution.”

Trump notoriously went after Cruz’s family in 2016 by publishing a meme accusing Cruz’s wife of being ugly and then suggesting that Cruz’s father was involved in President John F. Kennedy’s killing.

Despite this, Cruz went on to support Trump for president and became one of his most ardent supporters in the Senate, despite Trump’s refusal to apologize for assaulting his wife and father.

Cheney is coming out swinging at Cruz for the second time in as many weeks, accusing him of “posturing for the secessionist vote” last week.
