What has happened to us? When I am contemplating my next column I take a dive into the internet news world. It can be a depressing and alarming experience. There is so much out there and some days it is difficult to decide what to write about. So today we will just look at the headlines of the past couple of weeks.
The American Medical Association now tells doctors: Use woke language! It’s issued a 54-page guide telling doctors things like, don’t say “equality”; say “equity.” Don’t say “minority”; say “historically marginalized.” (Prescottenews.com) Here is the language I want my doctor to use, “your diagnosis is….”, “you will recover from this…”, “here is our treatment plan for your illness…”. I don’t need woke language from my doctor, I need answers about why I’m at the doctor’s office. Here are the five principles laid out by the CDC:
1. Avoid use of adjectives such as “vulnerable” and “high-risk.” Guess what, some people live lives that make them more vulnerable and high-risk. Smoking comes to mind. So now apparently we have to soft pedal all this so we don’t hurt their feelings. Ugh.
2. Avoid dehumanizing language. Use person-first language instead. I have had doctors who had no bedside manner, many brilliant people do not have the best social skills. But I’m at the doctor to get well so while it may feel nice to have the doctor be nice, I’d really just like the doctor to cure me, not worry about being nice to me.
3. Remember that there are many types of subpopulations. I don’t even know what this means.
4. Avoid saying “target,” “tackle,” “combat” or other terms with violent connotation when referring to people, groups or communities. Please. Please. This is just dumb. It actually is mentally helpful to “fight” a disease, to “tackle” a problem, to “target” the root cause.
5. Avoid unintentional blaming. Again, ugh. I guess you can’t tell someone who weighs 400 pounds that his problems would be alleviated if he lost 250 pounds. You can just pretend like all is normal and well and his knees giving out are a separate issue.
Issaquah High School is a four-year public secondary school in Issaquah, Washington, United States, a suburb east of Seattle. Recently the district held segregated meetings by color to be inclusive.!!?? There were 4 meetings held but only one was for parents of color. Anyone of any color was welcome at the other three meetings. What? MLK are you rolling over? Is this what you had in mind?

COLLEYVILLE, Texas (WKRC/KTVT/CNN Newsource) – A Texas middle school teacher is out of a job after she was reportedly caught saying “conservative Christians need to get COVID and die.” Wow. The gist of the conversation was why we are still battling Covid. Why people are still getting sick. So if I read this right, it is all the fault of conservative Christians that this disease is still on our planet. Really? Can anyone say “world-wide” “pandemic”? Somehow I don’t think that some people in America that have not had the vaccine is causing this disease to rage across our planet. But mostly, is this an example of the “tolerant” left? Like the twitter comment to “draft all the non-vaccinated”?
Last week Bill Gates made a speech and in it he stated, Omicron is a “type of vaccine that gives cellular immunity, spreads faster than vaccines…” If you or I said that anywhere on social media or the internet it would be pulled immediately as misinformation, but I guess Bill Gates is the Covid guru. Do tons of money really make you know everything? It must give you a free pass to say everything.
Then there was this: A “guy was reportedly kicked off a flight because he had “let’s go Brandon” written on his mask and he refused to change masks. The Allegiant employee claims it’s an ‘FAA regulation’” While I’m not in favor of bad language on anyone’s clothing I’ve seen blatantly bad language on clothing at many venues. At least this was “code” for bad language.
Our country has lost its collective mind. We have gone around the bend. We are officially nuts. We are so wimpy and whiny and intolerant that we are ripe for China’s picking. Or Russia’s. Believe it that they are watching all this intolerance and in-fighting and rubbing their collective hands together. Wake up people.
