President Donald Trump took the stage in Dallas for the GOP’s first midterm convention. He made a promise that has never been seen before in American politics. According to Fox News, he offered a cash prize to voters if the party keeps control of Congress.
“I can make this promise to you, and here is my promise,” he said. Should the Republicans secure victories in both the House of Representatives and the United States Senate,. I shall distribute a $5,000 dividend to each adult citizen residing in the United States of America.
He called it the “Trump dividend.” He compared it to how a successful company pays its shareholders. This offer came as he urged supporters to vote as if he were on the ballot one more time.

Trump opened his speech by grading his own performance since returning to office in January 2025. He said he is “doing a great job.” He then shifted to the history of midterms, noting that presidents usually lose control of Congress.

New polls from CNN show a different dynamic in key Senate races. Voters in Maine and Michigan want to send a message against Trump. The Washington Examiner reported that 46% of voters in Maine said their vote was aimed at “Sending a message that you oppose Donald Trump.”
The number is similar in Michigan, where 42% based their Senate votes on that same goal. Yet the races remain tight. Democrat Abdul el Sayed leads Mike Rogers by just three points in Michigan.
In Maine, Democrat Troy Jackson leads Susan Collins by three points. Collins has a history of beating the polls, but she faces a new risk this year. She may not have the option for voters to split their tickets.
Former Sen. Spencer Abraham forfeited his seat in 2000, and since 1994, Michigan has not chosen a Republican for the Senate. The Washington Examiner noted that while Trump is unpopular in these states, Democrats are only narrowly ahead.

The convention in Dallas is designed to turn out Trump voters who do not usually show up for other candidates. RedState reported that the party needs to focus on winning policy, not just applause.
