President Trump is demanding immediate action to fix the American film industry. He called Hollywood a “Complete and Total Disaster” in a new post. His goal is to create a federal tax incentive for movie and TV production.
Trump wrote on Truth Social that he wants Republicans and Democrats to work together. He said, “I am going to suggest that Republicans and Democrats get together, and immediately craft Legislation to save the Movie, Television, and Entertainment Business in America”. He believes this move will create new jobs for Americans right away.
Following a gathering with Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt, this push occurred. It also comes after Trump met with Jon Voight, whom he appointed as a special Hollywood ambassador. Trump declared, “I just had a GREAT and very interesting meeting with my Hollywood Ambassador and Movie Legend, Jon Voight”. Voight has been lobbying for this federal credit for some time.
According to reports, Trump says Hollywood has changed for the worse. He noted that Voight “hates what’s happened to it!”. The President argues that movies should be made in the place where they once were. He stated, “What we watch on the Silver Screen should be made in what was once the Movie and Motion Picture Capital of the World”.
Members of Congress are already working on the details of this plan. According to the Washington Examiner, legislation could be introduced as soon as September. The proposed incentive would be stackable on top of existing state tax breaks.
The deal would include a 20 percent credit for labor costs. Individuals working both in front of and behind the camera are included in this. The Washington Examiner reports that the plan also requires most of the work to go to U.S. personnel. This ensures the jobs stay within American borders.
Trump claims the cost to the government will be recovered quickly. He said the amount of money spent on tax breaks will be made up “tenfold by the money pouring into” the Treasury Department’s coffers. He insists the process will be fast and efficient. “It can be done quickly, accurately, efficiently and, importantly, will benefit ALL of America,” he stated.
Trump is setting up meetings with leaders from both political parties. He stated, “Meetings are being set up with the Leaders of both Parties in order to get this done”. He believes this should be a bipartisan effort. “It should be Bipartisan, especially since so much money is being lost in California, and other largely Blue States”.
The President is urging Congress to act without delay. He wrote, “Congress should approve, immediately, a Federal Production Incentive to create Entertainment Jobs in America”. His final message to lawmakers was simple and direct. “Let’s get this done!”. The focus now shifts to whether Congress will move forward with this proposal in the coming weeks.
