Hillary Clinton’s office is looking for a new intern in New York City, but one particular qualification in the job posting has attracted considerably more attention than the usual résumé requirements: discretion.
The former secretary of state and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee is seeking unpaid fall interns to work from September 9 through November 13, 2026, according to a Daybook posting reported by the New York Post.
“The Office of Hillary Rodham Clinton is seeking Fall Interns from September 9, 2026 — November 13, 2026,” the listing states.
The interns will assist Clinton’s staff with “a wide range of projects,” but among the qualifications listed is a “high level of professionalism and discretion.”
That wording was enough to set off jokes online, largely because of the Clinton family’s history with another famous political intern.

Bill Clinton’s relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinsky became one of the defining scandals of his presidency. Lewinsky was 22 when she began her relationship with Clinton, who was president at the time.
The scandal eventually led far beyond questions about the affair itself. In December 1998, the House of Representatives impeached Clinton on charges of perjury before a federal grand jury and obstruction of justice stemming from the Lewinsky investigation. The Senate later acquitted him.
Hillary Clinton has also addressed the power dynamics surrounding the relationship. In a 2018 interview, she rejected the contention that her husband should have resigned over the affair and said she did not believe the relationship constituted an abuse of power because Lewinsky was an adult.

Against that history, the word “discretion” in the new internship advertisement quickly became material for online commenters.
“I wonder if Monica Lewinsky is available. She was a real team player!” one person wrote on X.
Another asked, “Who the hell would sign up for that job???”
A third commenter simply wrote, “I value my life. Pass.”
The New York Post noted that commenters particularly seized on the fact that Hillary Clinton, rather than her husband, was advertising for interns.
Bill Clinton’s organization is apparently recruiting as well. According to the Post, his team at the Clinton Foundation is looking for someone to assist with special projects.
The internship advertisement describes the foundation in more conventional terms, stating that the former president created it around the belief that “everyone deserves a chance to succeed, everyone has a responsibility to act, and we all do better when we work together.”
