Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed received more than $115,000 in campaign contributions from dozens of people who work for or have held leadership positions with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a group with ties to terror.
A review of federal election records by Fox News identified at least 41 CAIR-linked donors who contributed to El-Sayed’s campaign. The contributors included officials connected to CAIR’s national organization and chapters in Michigan, California, Arizona, Texas, Georgia, Washington, Illinois, Minnesota, and Ohio.
Over $115,000 from 41 donors connected to a single organization — one whose legal dossier reads like a national security briefing. These aren’t random sympathizers, either. Among the contributors are CAIR’s national board chair, its treasurer, and its vice chair. The organization’s executive director, Nihad Awad — who publicly declared he was “happy” after Hamas butchered over 1,200 innocent Israelis on October 7, 2023 — chipped in too. He donated under a different name, Nehad Hammad. Casual.
Then there’s the family angle. El-Sayed’s own father-in-law, Jukaku Tayeb, sits on CAIR-Michigan’s board and has been a major financial backer of an El-Sayed super PAC. Tayeb also served on the founding committee of the Islamic Society of North America, an organization with its own scrutiny over alleged Hamas and Muslim Brotherhood ties. This isn’t some distant, arm’s-length association. This is Thanksgiving dinner.
El-Sayed’s entanglement with CAIR extends well beyond accepting checks. He was paid to speak at a 2022 CAIR event where he criticized Oklahoma’s prohibition on Sharia law, comparing it — with breathtaking audacity — to the Trail of Tears.

CAIR markets itself as a Muslim civil rights organization. Federal courts paint a starkly different picture. The Justice Department named CAIR an unindicted co-conspirator in the 2007 Holy Land Foundation terrorism-financing case. CAIR-California’s CEO has openly stated “Israel should be attacked.” Meanwhile, the Department of Health and Human Services is investigating roughly $30 million in federal funds funneled to CAIR affiliates, warning of possible “connections between CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood and its Palestinian branch, Hamas.”
States are acting — so where is Michigan?
Governor Greg Abbott designated CAIR a foreign terrorist organization in Texas. Governor Ron DeSantis followed suit in Florida. The United Arab Emirates reached the same conclusion back in 2014. A federal court has granted Abbott’s request for CAIR’s donor, recipient, and travel records. Multiple federal agencies have flagged tens of millions in taxpayer dollars flowing to CAIR chapters. How much louder do the alarm bells need to ring?
Remove him from the ballot
Here’s the bottom line. If CAIR is being treated as a terror-linked entity by multiple American states and is under active federal investigation, a Senate candidate financially intertwined with its leadership has no business appearing on a general election ballot. Period. Michigan officials and national Democrat Party leaders need to address this head-on. A man whose campaign war chest is padded with donations from officials of a court-identified Hamas-linked organization — and whose own father-in-law operates at the center of these networks — cannot be entrusted with a seat in the United States Senate.
