Mayor Mamdani’s Wife Skipped America’s Birthday for Overseas Islamic Trip

America only turns 250 once. Millions of Americans spent this Fourth of July weekend doing what you’d expect — flying flags, lighting fireworks, and honoring the republic that has given more freedom to more people than any nation in human history. It was a weekend to be proud. To be grateful. To simply show up.

But showing up demands something in dangerously short supply among the progressive ruling class: actual love of country. When the people running our greatest cities can’t even fake patriotism on the most historic Independence Day any living American will ever see, you have to wonder — where do their loyalties really lie?

From the Daily Wire:

While Democratic socialist New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani used America’s 250th birthday to criticize capitalism, ICE, and what he described as an “arena of supremacy,” his wife, Rama Duwaji, spent the nation’s milestone celebration thousands of miles away at a luxury Islamic spiritual retreat in Spain.

Duwaji departed from Newark Liberty International Airport earlier this week for Mallorca, a Mediterranean island off of the western coast of Spain.

Read that again if you need to. The First Lady of America’s largest city — Dallas-raised, Dubai-educated, all of 29 years old — decided that the nation’s semiquincentennial wasn’t worth sticking around for. She boarded an eight-hour flight to a Mediterranean island to host a sold-out, $3,400-per-guest Islamic retreat built around “Plants of the Quran.”

This wasn’t a spontaneous getaway, either. She’s booked to host a second sold-out Quranic retreat in Corsica, France, later this month — this one exploring “Mary in the Quran.” That’s not a vacation. That’s a full ideological calendar. And it raises a blunt question that deserves a blunt answer: does Rama Duwaji put her radical religious commitments ahead of American freedom?

Champagne socialists

The hypocrisy here is almost impressive in its brazenness. While Duwaji was boarding a transatlantic flight to a luxury wellness experience, her husband was scolding everyday New Yorkers to set their air conditioners to 78 degrees during a punishing heat wave. Meanwhile, temperatures inside City Hall reportedly dipped to a balmy 54 degrees. Rules for thee, comfort for me.

Republican Councilwoman Joann Ariola didn’t sugarcoat it. “Nothing says ‘America 250’ quite like skipping the celebration for a Mediterranean vacation,” she said. “I am not surprised because she has made her hatred for America very evident.”

Councilman Frank Morano struck a similar chord: “No one is saying elected officials and their families can’t take vacations, but this was a moment to show up for the city and for the country, and she missed it.”

Conservative commentator Arynne Wexler summed it up in two words on social media: “Champagne socialists.” Hard to improve on that.

A pattern, not a slip

This wasn’t some unfortunate scheduling overlap. Duwaji’s own digital footprint tells the real story. In resurfaced and now-deleted posts, she shared a message declaring that American soldiers “are not brave” and accused them of “slaughtering 3rd world civilians” to maintain American hegemony. Other scrubbed posts praised Palestinian militant organizations and attacked U.S. support for Israel. She torched her social media accounts only after the posts went public — which looks a lot more like damage control than personal growth.

Mayor Mamdani insists his wife deserves no scrutiny because she holds “no official role.” Spare me. She is the First Lady of New York City. And Mamdani himself used the 250th anniversary to denounce America as “an arena of supremacy” — while sitting behind George Washington’s own desk. The disdain isn’t hers alone. It’s the family brand.

What the 250th really revealed

America’s founders pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor for this nation. Two hundred and fifty years later, the First Lady of New York City couldn’t even pledge a long weekend. When our leaders and their families openly prefer Quranic luxury retreats on Mediterranean islands to celebrating the country they serve, it tells you everything about where the progressive movement’s heart actually is. Voters in New York — and everywhere else — should remember that when it counts.

Key Takeaways

  • Duwaji skipped America’s 250th for a $3,400 Islamic retreat in Spain.
  • The Mamdanis preach socialist austerity while indulging in overseas luxury.
  • Deleted anti-American posts reveal a pattern of hostility, not a one-time lapse.
  • New York’s First Family can’t even pretend to love the country they serve.
