Iran Fired Drones at a Cargo Ship in the Strait
The U.S. military struck Iran on Friday after Iranian drones attacked a commercial ship moving through the Strait of Hormuz. The target was the M/V Ever Lovely, a Singapore-flagged cargo ship that was exiting the strait along the Omani coast when it was hit by a one-way attack drone on June 25. According to President Trump, Iran launched at least four drones at ships in the area, and one of them hit the upper deck of a large cargo vessel. The ship was damaged but kept going, which is more than can be said for Iran’s decision-making skills.
CENTCOM Says the Response Hit Missile and Drone Sites
U.S. Central Command said American aircraft struck Iranian missile and drone storage locations and coastal radar sites on June 26. CENTCOM said the strike was a direct response to the attack on commercial shipping and called Iran’s actions an unwarranted violation of the ceasefire. The command also said Iran’s behavior threatened freedom of navigation in one of the world’s most important trade routes. In plain English, Iran picked a fight with commercial shipping, and the U.S. answered with firepower.
The U.S. Says It Will Keep Protecting Shipping
CENTCOM said its forces continue to provide safe passage coordination and support to commercial vessels traveling through the strait. It also said the U.S. military remains present and vigilant to make sure the agreement with Iran is followed. That matters because the Strait of Hormuz is a vital international corridor for global commerce, and any attack there can rattle markets and put crews at risk. If Iran thought this would pass as a small nuisance, Washington made clear it was not buying that story.
