Democrats Turn Their Blame Machine Inward
The Democratic Party has once again found a favorite target, and this time it is one of its own. DNC Chairman Ken Martin is taking heat after the release of a 200-page postmortem on the party’s failed 2024 strategy. The report paints a picture of a campaign operation that looked confused, sounded weak, and never found its footing while Republicans, led by President Donald Trump, reclaimed power. That is not exactly the kind of performance that inspires confidence, unless your goal is to produce a political cautionary tale with a fancy cover.
The Report Exposes A Party In Disarray
The analysis, written by Democratic strategist Paul Rivera and held back for months before it was released, points to major problems inside the party’s national operation. It cites poor messaging, weak economic arguments, and the failed effort to sell Kamala Harris as a steady heir to Joe Biden. The report also says Biden’s team waited too long to present Harris as a real leader, leaving her stuck in the shadow of a presidency many voters already saw as slipping fast. For months, she was told to lean on the tired “not Trump” pitch, which is about as exciting as cold cafeteria meatloaf. The study also points to bad coordination with outside groups and weak ground-level organization, both of which are a problem when you are trying to win elections in the real world, not just in press releases.
Lawmakers Want Martin Gone
Martin tried to calm the storm by talking up transparency and saying the DNC did its best to verify the details, though he also admitted not every data point could be confirmed. That did not do much to settle the crowd. Rep. Seth Moulton of Massachusetts said Martin should resign, and Rep. Mark Pocan of Wisconsin quickly backed the call for new leadership. Rep. Marc Veasey of Texas also joined the criticism, saying the party has no clear plan to fix the mess. Former Obama adviser Dan Pfeiffer and Priorities USA’s Danielle Butterfield also signaled that Martin may not be the man for the job. When even veteran Democratic insiders start sounding the alarm, you know the ship has more holes than a cheap fishing net.
Money Trouble Makes The Fight Worse
The leadership fight is getting even uglier because the DNC is also behind financially. Federal Election Commission reports show the committee trailing the Republican National Committee in both monthly donations and cash on hand. At the end of March 2026, the DNC reported just $13.8 million available, along with debt still hanging over the party’s head. That is not the kind of balance sheet that makes donors feel warm and fuzzy. Meanwhile, the RNC is sitting on far more cash and has the firepower to protect Republican gains in Congress. Inside the DNC, staff and activists are said to be frustrated and demoralized, and some progressive voices are now blaming leadership for leaving the party unprepared for the next round of fights.
