Donald Trump’s latest overseas trip has once again drawn attention not just to the president himself, but to the increasingly visible group of women operating inside his political orbit — particularly one aide who has repeatedly been mistaken for First Lady Melania Trump.
As Trump traveled to China for a high-profile state visit, observers noticed several female advisers accompanying him while Melania Trump remained in the United States. Among them was Margo Martin, the 30-year-old communications strategist who has quietly become one of the most influential members of Trump’s media operation.
Martin currently serves as Special Assistant to the President and Communications Advisor, a role that places her directly at the center of Trump’s rapid-response messaging and digital content machine. Her visibility has expanded even further in recent months as White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt remains on maternity leave.
While many Americans only recently became familiar with Martin, she has spent years climbing through Trump-world’s communications structure.
Originally from Ada, Oklahoma, Martin attended Texas Christian University before entering politics in 2019 as a junior press aide in the Trump White House. After Trump’s 2020 election loss, when many administration officials moved on, Martin stayed loyal to the president and relocated to West Palm Beach, Florida, to work in his post-presidential office.
That decision dramatically elevated her standing inside Trump’s inner circle.
Within months, she became lead press secretary for Trump’s post-presidential operation before later being promoted to Deputy Director of Communications for the Save America PAC. Following Trump’s return to the White House, Martin formally joined the administration as a senior communications adviser.
Today, she plays a major role shaping Trump’s digital image.
Martin frequently films behind-the-scenes footage of the president using her iPhone, capturing candid moments during campaign stops, travel, and private meetings. Those clips often spread rapidly online through official campaign channels and social media accounts tied to Team Trump.
Her work has helped turn Trump’s political operation into a highly coordinated online media ecosystem built around rapid-response videos, viral clips, and direct engagement with supporters.
Trump himself has publicly praised Martin numerous times, once jokingly referring to her as “the most beautiful photographer in the world.”
Her appearance has also generated unexpected headlines.
Martin has repeatedly been mistaken for Melania Trump due to her dark sunglasses, fitted black outfits, and similar hairstyle. One of the most notable incidents occurred in 2023 when Fox News anchor John Roberts mistakenly identified Martin as Melania during live coverage outside a Miami courthouse. The network later issued an on-air correction after realizing the woman entering the building was actually Martin.
The confusion resurfaced during Trump’s 2024 hush-money trial, when courtroom observers and media outlets again misidentified Martin while she accompanied the president during proceedings where Melania was absent.
Despite her growing public profile, Martin remains relatively private about her personal life. Reports and social media posts have linked her romantically to former lacrosse player Brock Sorensen, though neither has publicly confirmed the relationship.
Martin’s sister, Markie Martin, is also a familiar face in media circles as a NewsNation anchor.
Meanwhile, Karoline Leavitt recently commented publicly on her friendship with Martin after Trump’s remarks about her appearance sparked renewed online attention.
