Trump Turns on Another Original MAGA Supporter

President Donald Trump unleashed a sharp public attack against Rep. Lauren Boebert on Monday after the Colorado Republican campaigned alongside Rep. Thomas Massie, one of Trump’s most persistent critics inside the GOP conference.

In a fiery Truth Social post, Trump openly encouraged a primary challenge against Boebert and questioned her political judgment for backing Massie, whom Trump has repeatedly targeted in recent months.

“Is anyone interested in running against Weak Minded Lauren Boebert in Colorado’s Fourth Congressional District?” Trump wrote.

Trump also took aim at Boebert’s controversial move from Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District to the more Republican-friendly 4th District ahead of the 2024 election cycle. Critics had previously accused Boebert of political opportunism after she switched districts following a narrow reelection victory in 2022.

“You remember Lauren moved to the District when it became obvious that she couldn’t win in her original Congressional District,” Trump wrote. “A Carpetbagger, indeed!”

But the real source of Trump’s anger appears to be Boebert’s support for Massie, the Kentucky congressman who has frequently broken with Republican leadership and openly criticized Trump-backed legislation and spending priorities.

Trump escalated the attack by branding Massie “the Worst ‘Republican’ Congressman in the History of our Country” and declaring that “anybody who can be that dumb deserves a good Primary fight.”

The president even suggested he could revoke his endorsement of Boebert if a challenger emerged.

“Even though I long ago endorsed Boebert, if the right person came along, it would be my Honor to withdraw that Endorsement, and endorse a good and proper alternative,” Trump wrote. “Just let me know, or announce your Candidacy, and I will be there for you!”

The post instantly fueled speculation about whether Trump is prepared to actively intervene in Boebert’s next primary race, despite her years as one of his loudest congressional allies.

Boebert, however, appeared unfazed by the public rebuke.

In a response posted on X, she said she understood the political risks involved when she chose to support Massie and insisted she remains committed to the MAGA movement.

“Yes, I saw the President’s post,” Boebert wrote. “No, I’m not mad or offended. I knew the risks when I agreed to stand by my friend Thomas Massie. I was, and will be, America First, America Always, and MAGA.”

The dispute highlights growing tensions inside Trump-aligned Republican circles as loyalty battles intensify ahead of the next election cycle. While Boebert has generally been one of Trump’s strongest congressional defenders, Massie has repeatedly clashed with Trump over government spending, surveillance powers, and foreign aid.

Trump has made defeating Massie a personal political priority. Earlier this year, he formally backed Massie’s primary challenger, retired military officer Captain Ed Gallrein.

In a January Truth Social post, Trump praised Gallrein as a “true Patriot” and accused Massie of obstructing the broader MAGA agenda.

“The incredible people of Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District, who want desperately to get rid of Thomas Massie, the Worst ‘Republican’ Congressman we have had in many years, gave us a mandate to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” Trump wrote at the time.

He described Gallrein as a “Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, Fifth Generation Kentucky Farmer, and American Hero.”

Massie, meanwhile, has shown little sign of backing down despite Trump’s repeated attacks. The Kentucky congressman has built a reputation as one of the House GOP’s most independent voices, often opposing leadership-backed spending bills and constitutional overreach regardless of political consequences.
