America’s Freedom Truckers Are On The Move – 1,000 In “The People’s Convoy” Just Rolled Onto The D.C. Beltway
When the “Freedom Convoy” swept through Canada, the entire world stood up and took notice. Rumors of similar protests began cropping up in other countries, including the United States.
The rebellious truckers claimed to be fighting for their rights, and pushing back against draconian pandemic crackdowns in Canada.
And now, a group of American “freedom fighters” are making their presence felt in Washington.
A few weeks ago, when it was rumored that a U.S. trucker convoy might descend on the Capitol, President Joe Biden talked about defending himself with fencing and other security.
But it didn’t seem necessary, as no major trucker convoy rolled up to Biden’s doorstep.
That isn’t stopping over 1,000 vehicles from closing in around D.C. and making it known: they’re in support of their Canadian brethren, and they stand for the same individual freedoms.
That’s why “The People’s Convoy” decided to make a very big statement this week.
From Breitbart:
‘The People’s Convoy’ is rolling out to drive around the D.C. Beltway — Interstate 495 — a 64-mile loop that surrounds the nation’s capital covering Maryland, D.C., and Virginia.
The convoy is estimated to consist of several hundred trucks and over 1,000 other vehicles, including RVs.
This is not violent by any stretch of the imagination, however. Organizers have stated that they’ve communicated with state and local law enforcement, so their protest won’t come as a surprise.
In fact, they’ve always taken this precaution. In other counties, the convoy has even received a police escort at times.
They set out to drive around the Beltway twice, and the police are well aware. As a Virginia State Police spokesperson said:
Virginia State Police respects the public’s First Amendment rights and has been in contact with various groups’ organizers to ensure their understanding of Virginia traffic laws.
These communications have also enabled us to share our expectations related to keeping traffic flowing safely and efficiently on Virginia highways, especially in the case of emergencies and for first responder vehicles.
Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin and Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan say they’ve been keeping a close eye on the convoy, but support the protest in principle.
Youngkin’s office released a statement, saying they “remain dedicated to ensuring that individuals can express their first amendment rights while continuing the safe flow of traffic for all travelers.”
This convoy has eaten up a lot of miles, that’s for certain.
“The People’s Convoy” started in Adelanto, California, and has slowly been making its way across the country, gathering plenty of support as they’ve progressed. Their next stop is Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Maryland.
It seems the Biden administration shouldn’t be worried about the convoy, but the stance they’re taking is clear:
They won’t stand for any more government overreach by this administration, or any government that seeks to remove personal liberties. And circling the D.C. Beltway sends a pretty clear message to the President.
It’s not about violent upheaval — to these protesters, it’s just about standing up for one’s rights.
Key Takeaways:
- “The People’s Convoy” rolled onto the D.C. Beltway over the weekend.
- This string of protesters consists of several hundred trucks and over 1,000 vehicles.
- They’ve coordinated with police to ensure they’re not breaking any laws, and the Governors of Maryland and Virginia support their right to peaceful protest.
